Should we expect compensation for an addendum to our original lease? They are talking about

drilling for Marcellus & possibly Utica.

If it is an addendum item benefiting the gas company more than you, the landowner, then of course compensation is in order.  If it is something great for you, too, then you might just want to comply gratis.

Look at it as a separate lease. Would you sign a lease for Marcellus and Utica with no signing bonus?
Has this company drilled in Marcellus or Utica anywhere near you? If not they may aquire those rights and sell to another Company. Real easy money for them. Most of the sales between companies are around $10,000/acre. No they'll never pay a landowner that much. These type of deals involve thousands of acres and hundreds of millions $. Also if you have production from current lease that amendment will hold the Marcellus and Utica and they may not drill for decade's.
