What do you all think is the going rate for seismic testing? DAS offered me 5 bucks an acre. Isnt it worth more to them to get valuable information? The wire they use to connect the explosives cost more than that.

This is exactly why seismic contracts need to have many protective clauses, time frames established w/liability wording included.  Get excited over $5 - $25 an AC??  Don't do it.  Get #'s and lots of words in writing, THEN consider it.

So that others are forewarned, could you please provide the name of the Seismic Contracting Company that you are dealing with?

How long ago did the unresolved problems arrise?

If there is one company out there causing problems for Landowners, it would be helpful to identify them - as I do not think that their actions and inaction represent the majority of Seismic Data Contractors.

RONALD ROHR NAMED THE COMPANY! THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR OVER A YEAR. IT HAS GONE THRU THE COURTS AND THEY DID NOT EVEN DO WHAT WAS AGREED TO.

thank you for your reply i have yet to rceive the paper work my one nighbor has told me he signed the other day with global so we will see what happens. ron rohr.

Ok so here's whats goin on now. They were laying wire and sensors all along the road past my farm today. I assume its for 2-D seismic even though the guy laying the wire had no idea what i was talking about when i asked about it. He did know they were going to use thumper trucks and sensors. So anyway, I have a water well about 30 or so ft away from where they have a marker flag and stake. I asked the same guy where they were going to do the thumping and he said he believed they would at the marker. I asked if i could speak to the crew leader, and he said "sure"! he laughed and pointed to the pickup truck just ahead. He said" you can talk to him, but he wont know what the "F" you are saying... he doesnt speak or understand english" So I laughed too as i thought how ridiculous that was and said... "hows that working out for your crew?" he said "its been interesting" while still laughing. Oh, and no one on the crew spoke spanish except the crew leader who didnt speak any english.... so i gently tried to explain to the Latino man using sign language and my best broken spanish i learned in the 7th grade about 40 years ago. No good... so I took him to my water well... pointed at it and said "agua...no bang" while hitting my fist in my hand ... he said "ok ok"...will I have well damage? I have no idea... but I am glad they arent allowed on my land and using explosives! HA! Like some of you said... what could possibly go wrong? Dont worry ...be happy!

RICK DO NOT EVEN ASK THEM FOR ID BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY I WENT THOUGH THAT!!!!!! THE FUNNY THING IS THEY HEAR YOU SAY SOMETHING AND GET ON THE RADIO AND START TELLING SOMEONE IN SPANISH WHAT YOU SAID! WHAT ABOUT JOBS FOR AMERICAN CITIZENS?

Oh Donald.. I in no way wanted my post to sound racist... the Spanish gentleman was very nice and we had a great time and laughed and in the end we shook hands and had a buenos dias! I just saw so much humor in it... kinda like a scene from a sitcom! I'm not angry in the least... i just think i made a good decision by not allowing them on my farm without proper guarantees and who knows what kind of insurance they have for their operation and their workers!

RICK I DID NOT TAKE IT AS RACIST. THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE PEOPLE RUNNING AROUND WHO SAY THEY DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH. I HAVE BEEN AROUND MANY PEOPLE WHO DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH AND IT IS MY OPINION THAT THEY SHOULD WHEN YOU ARE IN A COUNTRY THAT'S ENGLISH SPEAKING.

The reality is that anyone you run into along the physical seismic line is likely to be a "drone".

Someone who is paid to do as they are told, in a rote fashion.

They know what to do, but likely do not know why they are doing it - just following orders.

And these people have no authority to alter what they are doing, or how it is done.

The people who have a clue are:

the Chief Observer setting in a dark instrument filled truck referred to as the "dog house". This truck often looks a bit like an oversized Good Humor truck (without the bells).

the Party Chief setting in a portable trailer office, or in a temporary office set up in a cheap motel room.

The Chief Observer will be altogether too busy to talk to you - as he is the "Conductor" of the ongoing Orchestra. The Chief Observer is responsible for the technical aspects.

The Party Chief is the person to contact when any questions or problem arrise.

The Party Chief is the person responsible for the logistical aspects.

Having the cell phone number of the Party Chief is always valuable.

All IMHO,

                JS

Are you sure the party chief speaks english? oh.. and spanish also? just kidding...
