I would like to learn about the current status of all O&G activity in Jefferson County, PA - specifically the Henderson Township region, Punxsutawney and Big Run locations.  Would welcome all e-mail replies!

Jack or others....with the news from Shell today about Utica gas production in Tioga County, what do you see as the potential for Utica shale gas in Jefferson County both dry or wet?

Jefferson County will be dry gas for the Marcellus and for the Utica. Any hopes of wet gas are destroyed by the heat and pressure which has been present at the depths at which these formations are located in Jefferson County, PA.

Shell’s well is in Middlebury Township; kind of in the Middle of Tioga County (a bit north of Wellsboro).

In some maps I have seen of the Utica, Tioga County is in an area that was listed as being ‘Overmature’ (meaning the Utica had been overcooked, with most of the hydrocarbons destroyed). Shell’s results in Tioga County obviously prove otherwise!

With the depositional trend being Northeast-Southwest, these results have positive implications for portions of Jefferson County, PA and portions of Indiana County essentially all of Clearfield County (in areas which have been feared to perhaps be Overmature at the Utica level).

Of course, until the Utica is drilled and tested in Jefferson County  PA, Indiana County and Clearfield County …. all that I (or anyone else) state is conjecture.

All IMHO,

Deer Spotter,  Thank you for explaining this and for your other informative posts.  I went back and read most of your posts and think you have very good understanding of our particular area.  I'll be looking for your information in the future!

Amen Mike: Ron is a self promoter never worked in the natural gas industry. Be very care full in any dealings with Ron. Worked with a Ken and Jim Thompson also Troutmen's and Thachter's in the early 80's  Millstone area. Any relation ? Hope so the were good people!!!  Shake hands with Ron count your fingers when you are done .

Thanks for all the replies to my question about current status of  O & G activity in Jefferson County, PA - just wanted to make sure we were not being overlooked on a few acres of mineral rights yet to be leased in the Henderson Twp area, Jefferson Co.  In reply to "deer spotter", to my knowledge there's no relation.  I'm considerably away from that area.

I have a lease with EQT in Knox Twp. Jefferson Co. and appreciate the explanation regarding delays to drilling. While it is tough to be patient, it is easier knowing that the delays occur for logical reasons.
