Please be careful of what you sign.  Some leases appear to allow for conversion or use for storage.  If conversion to storage happens before horizontal production you could find yourself in the same pight as the people in the Brinker Storage, having your property held forever by storage production.

The industry is citing one of the hinderances to the Eastern Ohio Utica prodution as being lack of storage capacity.

Many rights in leases can even be assigned.  I would not be suprised if companies like Columbia Gas, Nisource, and Dominion Transmission are actively looking to aquire the storage rights pertaining to new leases.

Columbia Gas and Nisource have even recently disclosed a a joint venture with Hilcorp, a driller.  I would not be suprised if the driller for the joint venture has leases that include storage and wonder if acquiring additional storage rights is part of the joint venture. Deals like this could be undisclosed and prearranged between the companies. Just be careful.  I know old leases for people in the Brinker Gas Storage Field have been daunting for property owners, who decades later wish they knew then what they know now.

If you do not understand the language in your soon to be signed lease about storage, just ask for a NO CONVERSION TO STORAGE addendum.
