Not positive Philip but I think so.  My nephew works for Murray which he owns Century I believe.  I know one of the mines are still doing it and I'm pretty sure they both are ,, sorry if that's confusing  but  my guess is that yes Century still is mining like that .

I believe I read they had an agreement now.  Gulfport has started drilling in that area.  Someone today made a post about all the rigs popping up in that area.

here it is:  it says "Gulfport has signed a new agreement with Ohio-based Murray Energy Co. to lease about 8,000 acres in Belmont and Monroe counties. That project will enable Murray’s coal-mining operations and Gulfport’s well-drilling operations to co-exist in a first in the Utica shale."

Thanks Den, I missed that one.  Does anyone know what the "agreement" is?

I suspect the "agreement" is that GPOR paid Murray a metric $#!+ton of money to lease their acreage and in return Murray would play nice when GPOR wants to drill.

Let me guess here, 8000 acres times what, $5000/acre to be conservative, equals what, $40 million dollars?

The entire energy industry is about, you guessed it...MONEY.

Murray might be hedging his bet.  As most old electric plants are switching to natural gas.

I know its something like Gulfport drills one Murray gross well a year, and Murray works with them on location.  The Irons and Perkins, I believe are both Murray Gross Wells.

Murray Gross Well???
