gas drilling will ruin the pristine air, land and water in Pennsylvania. There have already been gas explosions, diesel spills and people having gas in their wells; forgive me if I cannot feel happy and excited about this; I could care less how many mmcdf's there are on anyone's land. I will never sell out my land to a big gas company because unlike most, I care about our children and the future of this planet: a planet that is becoming rapidly unfit for habitation. Carolyn Wells
Well, there you have it. Carolyn Wells says, "...unlike most, I care about our children and the future of this planet..."
The naked arrogance of this statement is plain as day. Few others besides Carolyn Wells care for the children and the environment! It must be lonely in that rarified mental environment Carolyn.
Of course, most people care about children and the environment. I'm grateful to Carolyn for giving us a clear and simple example of the sort of thinking that stands in the way of the boost to our depressed economy in rural NY state. Decades of the depressed local economy must be the heaven such people want to keep us in. No thanks!
My family has lived in Tioga County, Pa. since white people first came to the area. We are one of the lucky families to not have been starved out of the land and bought out by people who turned productive farm land into hobby horse ranches and scrub brush. I used to be able to walk onto any of my neighbors lands without question. Then the posters started to lock off all land from general enjoyment. Necomers liked the stagnant economy because it kept their retirement and weekend getaway places colorful. Well, with a little luck and diligence on my part, that farm of mine may just bring in enough cash to take care of itself and pay back for a lot of hard times. I am not very sorry if some newcomer has to look across their line of no tresspassing posters to see the well heads or drilling rigs working for a while. Proper observation of the environmental regulations will keep the land intact.
carolyn, what does your car run on? what do u heat your home with? what does the scool buses and ambulances run on in your world?what do they heat the churchs, schools hospitals etc. in your world? is it all right for u and your family to reap the benifits of gas and oil,but holly hell for anone else. you should go to wash. d.c. and join the hipocrite club.
With all due respect Ms. Wells, did you ever ask yourself where the gas in your car comes from? or the tires on your car, rubber used in all forms of household items and plastics, Or the Oil you use to heat your home(if you use Oil) or who's land or water it disrupts? or whose right's have been abused.. And the production of gasoline is far more polluting than Natural gas drilling , just ask any person living near an Oil Well... The fact is that if John D Rockefeller had the technolgy to contain and ship Natural gas back then, we would never have seen the development of gasoline... at all
One other point, you should consider, is even if you don't sell, and your neighbors do, the gas companies can still drill under you land, they have to pay you of course , but please believe me they are going to get the gas under your property one way or another, so I think it a better hand to demand stricter regulations than to oppose them...
just a thought..
a founder of our organization has one of the largest producing trenton black river wells on her family's farm. they were lied to left and right about royalties, protections, placements, and more.
There is no doubt that the economy in this region is depressed, and has been long before the global economy went bad. And there is no doubt that farmers are struggling. But I think that is exactly why the gas companies are preying upon peoples' desperation. Yes, the natural gas industry and its associates will get an economic boost in this region... as farming, tourism, and wineries take a big hit. All the big money will leave and head back to Houston, or Calgary Canada, or to Norway... and this area will still be poor, hanging on to a few dwindling royalty checks and unable to farm the toxic landscape or get tourists to come visit the land of flares and explosions.
not on my land but part of the units, rumors have it at 20MMcfd they still have not fill the units yet i think i am the last on to sign my problem is it was at 3000.00 an acre now down to 1000.00 and 15% royalities down from 16. question i'm in between 117 acres and 200 acres they have sign up already the one with 200 acres is the one with the well. should i whole out for more money maybe to 2000.00 an acre
You don't get it. The money is not in the sign on lease money its in the royalty being paid for the life of the well 30 or more years. National average is 18.75% get that and the sign on bonus will look like the change in your pocket.
What makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen.[ Read More ]
