I am one of a small group of heirs who has a stake on a fairly sizable piece of land (at least for us its a sizable piece of land) with the mineral rights attached.  From the maps, I have seen it appears that both the Utica and Marcellus Shales underlie our land.

I am interested in learning of any drilling activity within the Nicholas County area.  I Understand a pipeline is in the works now but I would certainly appreciate it if I could get confirmation on that.

James,

I do not foresee any Marcellus drilling in Nicholas County for many many years.  If you go to the WVDEP website, you can find all the wells drilled throughout the State and the majority are much further north.

Mr. Holt, you can go to the WV Office of Oil and Gas website, map search  WV OOG map search

and put in recent dates (I think the last activity was late 2017) and see what shows up.

I agree with WV Mineral Owner that there is not much activity for this area. As he said, most of it is in the northern part of the state, Doddridge, Ritchie, Tyler, Wetzel, and some other counties being the most active.

You can go to this part of the website WV OOG sign up for notices for horizontal drilling to sign up for notices for Nicholas county, and any other county you are interested in. You will get an email notice if there is a proposal for a drilling permit. This is officially for people who own land in the area to be able to comment about any adverse affects that the proposed drilling might have (water use, etc) but it is a handy way to keep up with activity in your county of interest.
