The tubing can be attached to a mandrel that rests in a machined profile in the wellhead. The mandrel supports the weight of the tubing and often contains seals that isolates pressure. On simpler systems, a pack-off device is also used to isolate pressure.

The tubing can also rest on a packer that is attached to the casing or liner. The packer can be deployed on the tubing string or via electric wireline and a setting device prior to deploying the casing string. A seal assembly/stinger is used to find the inner bore of the packer to affect a pressure seal.

A packer without sealing elements can also be used to anchor the tubing in place downhole.
