We received letters from Shell stating they made some accounting error and they would be deducting from our checks to recoup. This is clearly a lie to steal from use. No company in business for 100 years with automatic processing of everything could possible make a mistake. There was no explanation of the error just "Accounting Error"

To John Tropea, the OP:

Count your blessings, dude.  You could be dealing with Chesapeake.  Then you would REALLY have problems!!

It's just like a pay check. If the clerk enters the wrong pay rate and you get over paid they want their money back. Just be grateful they pay you. You had nothing before.

Joe we are a long way form the 1970's when clerks had to do such manual entries. Everything today is as fully automated as possible. From the butterfly gauges measuring the gas going through the pipe to the accounting systems processing payments. Our pay pa rate never changes and that's not something that needs to be entered but once.

For Shell to claim the volumes are wrong they would have to blame the equipment that measures it. Not sure how they could prove the equipment failed. A friend of mine works for Emerson processing and they provide that equipment for many pipelines. The likely hood that someone or some clerk entered the wrong volumes month after month whiling viewing the same on line is ridiculous.

companies make accounting errors all the time even the biggest ones. just calculate your own DOI and compare.

Matthew, you are correct! Shell just gave us a letter saying this is what we are going to do... Take 20% of your royalty to recoup for some volume errors.. without ever showing and numbers. Even that aside their checks stubs have no information at all just an amount. When Ultra owned have the interest their check stubs showed the amounts and volumes for each well which could be verified much easier. With Shell its just one amount with no volume information at all. There no way to verify anything without doing a mess of calculations months later after they report it to the DEP
