Hi ! Newbie here, so if these questions have already been asked, I apologize.

We recently ( December 2014) signed a 5 year lease agreement with Statoil for 30 acres in Tyler Co. for Marcellus shale. They indicated that they wanted to start drilling immediately, but so far we haven't heard anything. What I'm inquiring about is:

* I heard that Statoil flipped some leases to Southwest Energy and / or Chesapeake. Is this true and will this have any bearing on estimated drill dates?

* I know that NG has taken quite a tumble price wise, but Statoil REALLY wanted our property. Is this the old "hurry up and wait" game or is Statoil sincere in their intent?

TIA for all of your help. :0)

They did that to me for my Wetzel county property almost 2 years ago...To date nothing done yet. Got a call 3 weeks ago from antero saying they may be buying my lease? All I can tell you is nothing is certain till the moneys in hand then be prepared to most likely be disappointed....Read everything you can...it passes the time..lol

Thank you, Donna. We're thinking that Statoil may want to "sit" on the property for  awhile---just leasing it to ensure they have it when / if they want to drill.

Companies buy and sell leases all the time.

Whether or not a sale may affect your situation is difficult to answer without more specific information from you.

For instance a district, map number and parcel number. Or a mineral parcel number. I can do some research for you.

If you wish to keep that info private then you can do some research yourself.

Go to tylercountywv.com. A screen will come up that shows two tabs; document inquiry or tax inquiry.

Click on the document inquiry tab.

At the next page type in your name, all transactions with regard to your name/property will be displayed.

You may find an assignment of your lease (if it exists) or a unit designation ( if it exists).

This is not an exact science and you may have to "play around" with what you find in order to find the info you seek.

Thank you for the helpful info, Barry. I'll definitely check it out. Our land isn't contiguous plats--they're separated  by  someone else's acreage--but Statoil leased both plats.
