Target formation list on DEP, interesting read, at least for me

I just noticed this on the DEP site, maybe I've been missing it all along or it is new. If you haven't been there it is worth looking at for the giggles of it. Utica is listed the most, but others surprised me a bit.

Going here:   http://www.depreportingservices.state.pa.us/ReportServer/Pages/Repo...

will let you select criteria for viewing the target formations of all wells reported, even those not drilled it appears. I don't know if the list is complete, but it appears that way.

The list of target formations so far in Beaver County reads like this:  Utica, Marcellus, Trenton Limestone, Rhinestreet, Onondaga, and last but not least Point Pleasant.

Very interesting!  I knew they had a few formations to explore/produce and this solidifies the thought.

Now if we only knew what they think is down there in those other formations we would be golden : )

When a PERMITTED WELL INVENTORY search is performed with criteria ...for example... Beaver County, Brighton Twp., Unconventional Only wells selected as yes and for the Operator Chesapeake, one well is returned. However when a search is performed under the OIL AND GAS WELL FORMATIONS REPORT using the same search criteria, 3 wells are returned. Isn't this a problem? Shouldn't both searches result in the same number of wells being returned, regardless of formation. They both are unconventional.  I would think that the permitted well inventory report should include ALL UNCONVENTIONAL WELLS. It is a huge pain to have to go and download the formation data, format the hell out of it so it is in a usable format to join to the permitted well inventory list. Even after all of that, there are major gaps in the data and a large chunk of UTICA AND BURKETT / GENESEO wells are not mapping. These are the only two formations I checked and I found a total of 168 that did not come up under the permitted well inventory for the entire state. So lesson learned .... don't rely on Permitted Well Inventory to return results for any formation other than Marcellus. It is best to do a search under the Formation name. It would be REALLY nice if the DEP would add the formation name to the permitted well inventory and add all formations for unconventional wells.

Thanks for taking the time to confirm what appeared to be lacking to me as well.
