I don't know about yins, but for the last month or so, everytime I check this site it seems that the post are dominated by Trolls like: "Jock Strap, Northrop, Jim Shoes, etc. The content also is getting to be more like the Vindy.com wherein the incognito are beginning to take over. This site once had an unheard of amount of hits per sound post and the brainstorming educated us all whereas we as landowners learned from each other. Lately, I do not recognize the names here and it is getting to be free-for-all, as garbage is spewed by the newcomers.
I'm hoping that the owners of this site begins to take action and scrutinize members more, or require all posters to use their real names. Many of the intelligensia seem not to be visiting this site lately and the danger here is that we in the Utica and Marcellus Shale are still in the infancy of this energy boom. Remember, wells in the Utica are still just arriving and infrastructure is not in place yet. There is still a lot of work to be done and this play is just beginning; we need to stay the course and continue with astute discussion here while we learn more about ourselves and our land.

The vitriol being spewed here lately has me on the verge of tuning out of this site permanently.
What has happened to our dear GMS ? There is so much yet to learn and stay abreast of , yet the absolute rudeness , crudeness , and intolerable behavior of some of these so called "expert professionals" leaves alot of us totally turned off. I've had about enough of this B.S. , that's for sure!
I fear this once fine site is losing it's credibility and is falling to the wayside. Like a high school classroom left unattended and discipline thrown out the window. Anyone else getting sick and tired of dodging spitballs? Sad , so sad.
Permalink Reply by Chris Farabaugh on July 8, 2012 at 10:55pm I dont post very often but i check in daily and take the information in, and i agree im almost to the point of being mad enough to not check in anymore with all the mouthy douchebags on here picking and causing trouble. Most other message boards im on these people are promptly removed, i wish it would happen on here.
And if im called a crybaby or that i cant take it, i have my real name on here, unlike many using aliases. I agree with you Ron completely!

alot of the good discussions are your creations. You have not been so active lately. I was wondering for some time now if it was your lack of new discusions that has allowed GMS to tarnish. Political extremism seems to have at least silenced folks if not chased them away also. Many of us country folk this past week have not had power or internet so more urban(no offence) and out of Marcellus/Utica area input helped ice the turd cake this week.
I would think our Texan friends would try to hush the ones you mention cause they sure give the impression that at least some things are bigger in Texas, egos, and bullshit. Seriously, the Texans I know don't wear big shoes.
Ron, Please give us some new discussions with ideas to ponder. Please
Keith, If Ron fails to inject new life back into GMS, please provide USA's posts in a extremely condenced version.
Dan , U da Man!
Seriously, thank you for the uplift, brainstorming with good landowners is like family to me now. We are all in this together and I have learned a lot from all of you. Don't worry bro, I'll get back to concentrating on energy and land once again. BTW, my history here shows that I am very pro energy companies and they are our partners in this bounty.
Permalink Reply by DDS on July 9, 2012 at 8:37am People it seems to me that you all need to get tougher skin. Some people take replies way to personnel. If you usually do not like the comments posted by certain individual than I suggest you just don't read them. There is no reason to ban anyone or quit coming to the site.
It is not the lack of intestinal fortitude or toughness that is keeping some of us away, it's simply a matter of not needing one more source of aggrevation in our lives. The cost's outweigh the benefit and so the Troll's and neysayer's win by default.

I use a dead presidents name or other "incognito" so as to thwart the loonies that pervade the internet.
I have been harrased a bit by a couple of know it alls, who, as far as I can tell are parrots of rumors and "probablys".
I came here for education, or in the rare case to help out with facts, not to be harrased by keyboard cowboys.
"Their baaaaaaaaaaaack"
I'm glad to see the return of the silent majority, the landowners of the Shale. A little insight to my blogging experience, I've been on blogs daily for several years now since they became a tool. At first they all seemed to devolve into VERBAL ABUSE; this is a phenomenon which I strongly believe no moderator anticipated, it just digressed this way. And...I think I know why; when one's true identity is not required, not all, but some seem to unleash a power they never really had before; a power that has no repercussions when you can hide behind a ficticious name. A power one can parlay with half truths, distortions and out right lies to further any agenda perceived.
I strongly believe Kieth while other sites are wrestling whether to mandate accountability versus readership numbers will and has taken on the coming evolution of internet forums. The evolution of building an internet community governed by accountability and mainly free speech only with the qualifications and responsiblity of what you post. I predict GMS will be one of the first to realize a surge in community members when it mandates true identity regardless of the use of a pen name or not.
Permalink Reply by daniel plainview on July 24, 2012 at 12:05pm We are babes in the woods when it comes to gas & oil companies. Even after our prior gas leasing experiences we have not learned our lesson. It's all about the money and greed, on both sides.
Remember it is your property and should be your rules not theirs, don't let them dictate terms or prices.
They would like you to think it is patriotic to free us from foreign energy and get on the team when in reality it is about the money. The gas extracted from and transported through your property will go to the highest bidder, stored and most likely be shipped overseas. What do you think all these pipelines are for and where they are going. The gas industry is now retrofitting their import facilities to export facilities with the ability to liquify the gas for shipping.
The real money is in the transportation of the gas. An easement through our property is forever and will transport something long after the gas is gone.
So the best for the landowner is to be informed by any means possible and listen to their neighbors and others that have had experience(s).
FYI, there is a new line going in montoursville, the word among the locals is $80+ a foot.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
