Entirely possible. But no sane driller wants to drill anywhere in New York State. It's too politically risky.
Put yourself in their position. You have limited resources, times are tough and prices are falling. Why risk NY drilling when you can drill in Ohio or in West Virginia or even in Pennsylvania; anywhere but in New York. Those other states have their welcome mats out. In NY you get treated like sh**.
SW New York is a great region and it is about as far from Albany as anywhere else in the state. But that's not far enough.
We are trying hard to fight the environuts that populate upstate NY. These people-including James Northrup-are spreading downright lies and hysteria throughout the region..We are fighting back--two lawsuits have already been filed against towns trying to ban any drilling or gas related activities within their borders. Hoping for the best. Gas companies say they will begin seeking new leases in NY in the spring of 2012.
What makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale.
