We just recieved a letter from Seitel to get permission for them to do some 3D seismic survey near our house.  We have well water and was wondering if there ever has been a known problem affecting the well from the testing process.  Also if this means that they are going to possibly start looking at drilling here.  We live off of 18 near the the 30 intersection anyone that knows any further information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Ken,

Seitel will be testing all over the following: Hanover, Raccoon, Independence, Potter, Greene, and Hopewell

We got a letter too this week, we live off Route 168 behind the golf course.  I read in other discussions that we should have a signed leased before we let them do the survey, is that correct, cause I don't have a signed lease yet.

I also received this letter the other day. I'm a little skeptical as it's my understanding this entire area had a 3D survey done several years ago. Hence the reason there are already several wells in production around the area. It's my understanding Seitel will attempt to purchase your mineral rights outright or sell the survey results of the surveys to energy companies if enough landowners to participate in the survey.

It is ALWAYS recommended that if one intends to lease @ some future date ... even if tomorrow... say NO to seismic testing on your land.  Agreements signed for this process to be done can be just as tricky and without protections for the landowner.

If you've already signed a lease, seismic testing is OK and can be allowed BUT you still want environmental, liability, and land disturbance clauses in an agreement before you sign

Ken:  Think real hard before you agree to permit seismic testing.  First, the offer that my clients have conveyed to me is $5.00 per acre.  Why would a landower allow this intrusion for so litte?  Second, the seismic operator may be doing the array for itself to sell to another company, or perhaps directly as a contractor of a gas operator.  In either event, the seismic operator will be handsomely paid.  Why shouldn't you be paid likewise?  Why would you give away something that they are going to sell and make a profit?

In the Hookstown area CHK has sent letters saying that Seitel is doing the seismic for them (CHK)

Seitel did the 3 D seismic testing on our farm and we are 110 % Happy with the way they treated us and our farm.  BUT... I am really afraid of what CHK. is doing to land owners.  On the other hand.... Rosebud coal STINKS !!!!  They hit an old gas/oil well under our property.  They said they fixed the problem. ?????    They were very rude to me.   I do have to agree $5.00 per acre is stupid but Seitel has a great record and CHK. has a horrible one. At the time I signed  with Seitel I thought I would be safer, thinking CHK. would have their own testing company. I did not know CHK. was paying them. Our contract with Seitel has a lot of additions with it. By the time I was done it was 5 pages long.     I  have not received any letter from CHK.      I live in Hookstown, PA.

Seitel did seismic testing on my large acreage in Findlay township this past fall and they were totally responsible, caring, respectful, etc. I have a road that is chained off with a chain 30 years old and they broke the chain to enter the property by accident(it crumbled when they went to lift the chain off the hook). I was immediately called to tell me and the foreman said a man was running down to Grainger as we speak to completely replace the chain with a brand new chain. They were totally professional and called me in advance before they ever came onto the property.
