The XTO Patton Unit 1H Utica well in Connoquenessing township (By Lutherlyn on Rt 528) first production report is now available.  For 129 operating days in the second half of 2014 this dry gas Utica well produced 778,970 Mcf.  That is almost double the production rate of the (previously) single best well in Butler County the Thomas s Pajer AL 3H in Buffalo Township (a dry Marcellus well).

The average production rate over the 129 day operating period was 6 million cubic feet per day.  The Patton 1H Utica is also dry.  The vertical depth of the Patton 1H is 9,897 feet and so this is a much more costly well than the Pajer whose vertical depth is about 6300 feet.

With $4 or $5 gas, the Patton well would seem to be economic depending on the decline curve.  I doubt that it is economic at current gas prices.

Are they using a restricted choke and holding the production rate down?

The same XTO well tender that operates the Patton well operates the Marburger B wells.  Since I'm in the Marburger B Unit I sometimes talk with the well tenders.  After this weather clears, I intend to ask them about the Patton Utica well.  If I learn anything, I'll post it here.

Monthly reporting here in PA should start soon so that will make it easier to track this well.

And another piece of the Utica puzzle falls into place around SW PA.  Seemingly good production numbers from Green County and now this post about Butler County.   Next up, to my knowledge, is a well in Westmoreland CO where CNX has started drilling the lateral on a utica well that has a permitted depth of 13,400.  Maybe the results will be known before the end of the year.

Cheers
