“It just looks like anything north of Carroll County isn’t going to work"

Any thoughts on the accuracy of this Vindicator story? Pretty damning appraisal but it bases the claim that Columbiana is a bust on one analyst, if you read closely. Meanwhile, I've been seeing other claims that wells are choked back dramatically to reduce declines over the first couple of years. A soft decline curve sure would change the economic outlook of Columbiana's most recent production numbers, as reported by ODNR.

I think only time will tell.  Most of the landowners with wells on Teegarden and Millport pipelines have not received any royalties yet.  We know only a few folks near the Kensington plant who have actually received any payments.  Millport wells went into production sometime in March so expecting payments to go out sometime in July for these wells.  Part of Teegarden also in production by March and a few later than that.  In the next three months most people in the wells in Columbiana County South West near Carroll will receive royalties.  Wells east of 11 have not been hooked up to any pipeline that I have seen.  If that is dry gas they will sit on that until the price goes back up IMHO.  The one well close to us that we know one of the landowners is gas, wet gas and oil.  One unit in one direction is mostly wet gas and the other unit in the opposite direction is more oil.  Not sure which direction NW or SE is which though.

Agreed, James, that's a good assessment from the mineral owners point of view in Columbiana. I've heard of at least one check going out for a well on the Millport but that was very recently. The royalties appeared to equal about $100 per acre per month. This is not hearsay, it's as close to certain as can be. Strange though, because I know other checks have not arrived for wells producing on that line. Maybe they are literally "in the mail."

But the ODNR figures and these analyst rumblings bother me. I guess my biggest fear is CHK would abandon the area because production is too low. It's still so early that it seems like a possibility, if a remote one. For us mineral owners, it's all good money -- as long as they stay we get something. But we don't have to balance the corporate ledger and please shareholders.

Hi,

Can someone link the article here?
Thanks

Could the bias or slant of the story be affected by the fact that Shale Sheet, which is published by the Vindicator, put out their last issue in June 2014?

I went looking for the July 2014 Issue of Shale Sheet.  I checked several locations that I knew sold the publication but they didn't have any copies.

I went to the Vindicator, stopped at the front desk, and spoke to Debbie.  She made a phone call and confirmed they have not printed a July 2014 issue, do not have any plans at this time to print any more issues of Shale Sheet, and are not doing anything with Shale Sheet on the web either.

That's odd. I guess they've given up on the Utica Shale? But it might just mean that Shale Sheet wasn't good enough to get many readers and not mean much about the future of the shale play in general. At least that's what I hope.

TJT, your fear of CHK abandoning the area may prove to be a good a thing if they were to leave. I for one, a holder of a CHK lease, would much prefer to deal with a company that lives up to the language of the lease.

I think you're on to something about the story being biased / slanted myself.
I think developers are cherry picking the low hanging fruit myself.
All as always only IMHO.
East of 45 no wells hooked to pipe line

Time will tell.  I think everything will be put to rest when all the ALOV leases expire - lets see if CHK renew, sell, or let them die.

Without taking a ride last night, I'm assuming they were flaring the Milltree well all night long.
Since, its daylight now I'm wondering if they still are.
I wonder what's going on.

Sevek Well by Southern Local High School.  We drove out there last night late.

Milltree is already online and they have not done anymore drilling out there to my knowledge
