We got an offer from Chesapeake about one year ago and had to go through some legal maneuvers to get out of a 2008 lease that my mother signed after she got Alzheimer's Disease. Long story short, after spending about $10,000.00 in legal fees for review of the CHK lease and buying out the 2008 lease, etc., we just got a withdrawal letter from Chesapeake. I had talked to the landman at DPS Penn all along about the negative press regarding Chesapeake and asked whether we should have the CHK lease reviewed, but he said they still planned to lease my property the last time I spoke to him.

Our property was in the proposed GR-52 (Lahanza LLC) Unit and close to, but not in the GR-5 (Braddock/Parry) Unit near the Allepo Twp border on Long Run Road.

Anyone else get their lease pulled or hear of others having their leases pulled in Greene County or elsewhere?

Any advice on what to do at this point? Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Steve,  I graduated with your brother and have been talking to him for the past 3 weeks about minerals and leasing so those in the know didn't take advantage of your Mother. I'm glad to see you are using this website as a source of information on what is happening in your area. Do a search on my name to read the advice I have given to others on this website.

When you sign with a company, make sure they are a drilling company, otherwise the company (DPS Penn for instance) will sell your lease to a drilling company and collect the difference between what they pay you and what the drillers pay them. Dale Properties are a western middle man company that added the word Penn to sound like a trusted neighbor.   

Greene County has Marcellus, Utica and Devonian Shales which will eventually be drilled and produced, providing a very good income for all of the landowners in your county. People will want to buy your minerals or share a percentage of them as you get close to being drilled. The minerals are worth too much to be sold.

I own land in Columbiana County where most of us signed with Chessapeake. They have paid everyone I know of that signed leases with them. Like any company you have to be careful and sign a lease written by a land owners group or a fair lawyer that has a good contract. The strength of the Land Owners Group drove up the lease bonuses and royalties due to oil companies competeing for the large acreages put together.           

Hopefully a drilling company will show an interest in Greene County soon.  Good Luck in your search.   Ron

I Sstarted this search in May of last year. My grandfather and greatgrandfathers names were Hampson. They left mineral rights and royalties to me, my sisters and cousins. We have signed a lease for two parcels in Greene County. There is another Hampson in Richhill Township that is named Hampson. Does anyone in Richhill Township have any information if we have any interests in this well, so we can begin researching it? I am in Virginia so we are all doing most of our research with the help of the internet, landsman, oil companies, and occasionally an attorney. Thanks for any help you can provide. Debbie Pennell
