I think it is astonishing that five years ago so many people signed for $5(oxford) and now we are talking about $2000 I say we all wait five more and retire?
Comment by Dan on February 24, 2011 at 12:07pm There are so many factors Josh. There are factors that push it up and factors that push it down. Speculation about the well, proximity of land to the well, competition from other drillers and brokers and outside energy buyers, size of acreage, trade-offs with other lease terms, how close you are to a transmission pipeline, and market prices of gas and oil, to name a few. Putting all the factors into a formula that spits out the signing bonus is a few steps higher than rocket science. Maybe a specific rise at some point has one cause, but overall there are many factors at work. Don't know if that is what you are asking. Perhaps someone else has more insight into this.

Comment by Dan on February 22, 2011 at 10:40am Josh, I don't know Chesapeake's "game plan" for Harrison County, but here is what I do know.
The drilling is all done at the Buell well, and they are making preparations now to frac the well. As far as I know, they have every intention of putting that well into production. I know some landowners who are in negotiation for pipeline right-of-way to connect that well to a transmission line 3 miles to the west.
Since the new year, there have been no permits issued in Harrison for drilling new wells, by Chesapeake or anyone else.
On 1-14-11 Chesapeake got a permit to drill in Carroll county down to the Utica. So far it is not a horizontal permit, but that's the way it started out with the Buell well too - they changed the permit to horizontal later.
Phillips Energy got a permit on 1-25-11 for a horizontal Marcellus well in Belmont County.
Oxford has a couple permits in Belmont too, one dated 1-27-11 and the other 2-7-11. They are stated to be 8000 feet, but I'm not sure from the way the permit reads if they plan to end up in Marcellus or Utica.
So I don't know where the next drill site will be in Harrison. Does anyone else have any information?

Go to Zacks.com , type CNX in the symbol blank, scroll to Real- Time News on CNX, Highlight "Consol Energy Boosts Reserves-Analysts Blog"
Paragraph 3
I would think the original Barnesville well might have something to do with drilling six more wells.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
