Ive been told bp made a mistake in trumbull and mahoning counties. Supposedly pulling the plug here and not interested any more. Has anyone else heard anything? Information is appreciated!!!

BP has FOUR (4) Well Permits.

All four wells are drilled and at "Producing" Sstatus.

BP now has ZERO remaining Permits.

What are they waiting for?

Brammer has 2 permits

1 at Drilled status

1 at "Producing" status.

I think, Brammer is sub-contract drilling for BP.

Utica,  "what are they waiting for?"

We would all like to now the answer to that question.  Brammer is indeed contract drilling for Bp.

Thanks for your diligent posts and updates.

MJ,

It took o/g companies a few years to perfect getting oil out of the Bakkan shale out in North Dakota, these companies now are getting over a million barrels per day out of this shale !! I believe the same will happen in the utica. Any one hear from Mr. Snort Widley? I,m sure BP is working on it ?

I am with you Craig - it will take some time.  As for Snort, I find it unusual how he pops in every now and then to spread some "cheer" then disappears for weeks or months at a time.

Craig,

Figuring out how to extract the oil from the very dense Utica Shale is only half of the  problem. Getting the oil out, at a profit, is the other half of the problem. If both issues cannot be resolved soon then maybe the Oil stays in the Utica until a barrel sells for $150?

US,

I believe the technology is close if not already here to extract the oil from the Utica, but at what cost ! Lots of new inventions in the past few months I have been reading about.

Utica is No Bakken

"...
The problem drillers have run into is that the rock is a lot more dense than anticipated. The pressures underground aren’t strong enough to produce the desired oil.

Experts are learning that finding shale rock doesn’t necessarily mean instant dollar signs. Formations of even the same basic rock structure can have elements that make it burdensome for drillers. Even the modern technology of hydraulic fracturing combined with horizontal drilling has its limitations.

Success that has come with the Bakken and Eagle Ford won't come so easy in a shale formation like the Utica, which is less porous where the oil is located, meaning the resource is held in there more tightly. And its areas for oil extraction are shallower than where gas is found, which is uncommon compared to other shale formations. This makes it harder to get the oil to flow through the rock.

Right now, oil drillers can only wait for that technological breakthrough that can deal with this new, more stubborn shale formation — much like when hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling first broke open drilling technology in the Bakken.

It’s a time issue; figuring out what does and what doesn’t work can be time consuming. The former is likely to happen, but when is unclear.

Utica Shale: I agree pressure is an issue, Why would a drilling company spend millions or billions of dollars trying to crack the oil code when they already know the best way to extract the oil and gas from other shale plays? Some wildcaters will drill but no real production until the code is cracked.

From an outsiders view activity in Mahoning and Trumbull counties seem to have ground to a slow pace. But that said some of us are basing our view on what happened in other counties. Leases were signed and boots were on the ground asap. Rigs started popping up and moving from place to place so fast we could barely keep track. Then they started to return foe second third ... sixth well on same pad. Infrastructure started popping up. Rail lines brought back into use. Empty buildings sprang back to life. Hotels built. Restaurants once closed reopened. Existing hotels and restaurants bursting at seams. Water, sand trucks everywhere. Pipelines going in. Activity on ODNR seems to be moving south in Ohio. Columbiana has slowed down quite a bit although pipelines are being completed here. No point drilling wells that sit for a year with no pipelines ... no money coming in doing that. Millport pipeline is nearly completed and gathers from about 8-10 current wells. The final leg of Teegarden Pipeline is being completed and it will gather 10-12 current wells. Future wells cannow be added rather quickly. There are several other pipelines going into two locations that I know of here just west of Rt 11 near Lisbon and out near Summitville. There are another 10-12 wells in each of these areas that need gathering lines installed.
