Activity in the County (Leases, infrastrature, drilling)

Just was curious to hear of any activity going on in Venango county.  Anything from talks of leasing, to actually signing on the line of a lease. 

What have the offers been for potential leases?  Any good addendums you were able to negotiate?

Has anyone heard how the completion went for the Seneca Resources well?

Hopefully 2012 will hold a lot more activity for this industry founding area.

Easy major pipeline access is going to be important to getting an operation up and running in the least amount of time.  The first Marcellus wells were located in close proximity to pipeline access in order to recoup the costs of drilling and supply an income to finance later drilling.  I would be looking for a location close to a concentration of major lines.

I also spoke with a shell rep last week and it still was $3250 and 18%.  

I think transportaion is going to be very important for the frac plant.  Many of the products from this plant would either need their own pipeline or have to be trucked.   Plus many ancillary plants supposedely will be adjacent to the frac plant.   Rt 80 East with no tolls would be ideal for the trucking.  Plus 79 south and north would give acess to many other highways.   Eastern Ohio also has good infrastructure but shell does not have the acreage or pipelines in Ohio to obtain the raw gas for the plant.   The panhandle of West Virginia could also be a possible location.  Definitely not an expert of frac plants but I would also think the plant would need a water supply. 

 

My guess would be that shell places the frac plant in the middle of their leased operations which I think would be in Lawrence or Butler Counties.

So what is Shell interested in here?  Is it the Utica?  From the maps I have seen, it looks like Venango is in a dry gas area.  Has anyone heard anything different?  Is that the difference between the $3250 here and the $5,000 I have seen in some Ohio counties?

What does "dry gas area" mean. Is that good or bad for property owners in Venango Co as far as lease negotiations go?

Shell is interested in the Rhinestone (upper Devonian), Marcellus and the Utica in Venango County.  There is still the trenton black river under all of these.  I was told that it is probable that at least one of these is wet.
