Just wanted to post up on your wall to get the word out that Our Southern Athens Co group started taking group members from the eastern side of Vinton Co. We signed about 30 agreements right on the border of Athens/Meigs/Vinton. Just wanting to get the word out. landowners can call me 740-662-3012 or email me [email protected] Thanks.

Timberland, The majority of Vinton county is currently thought of as being in the  "immature" zone... The northeastern part of the county looks like there might be some possibility, but not anywhere like in the northeastern part of the state. The soil and water district and OSU extension decided to put the meeting on because they were getting questions from landowners... some Vinton county landowners also signed up with Cunningham when they were holding meetings in Athens. The were primarily interested in land bordering Athens county. please go to the meeting if you can. Landowner associations can be good, but they also vary in their rules, and charges to landowners for getting a lease together.

I suggest attending the meeting. This stuff is complex, so you want to be ready if it does get to you.

That is what we heard too but I was interested after seeing that there was going to be a meeting in McArthur. I thought there was something new going on.

As to landowner groups, there are several schools of thought, but most on this site will advise to join a group. Joining a group will slow things down, but you will gain many protections you would likely not get in a standard lease from the oil companies. Also, by joining, you increase your chances of a large per acre bonus. Check out the Guernsey County site for a really good preview of what may be coming your way.

Timberland, I have not heard of anything specific in Vinton County, but the activity is moving that direction. Things are really starting to heat up in Morgan, Washington, and Athens Counties. The problem in Vinton right now is nobody is sure how far west the producing shale extends. Most maps show it stopping short of Vinton or extending only partway into it.

I would like to keep up to date with any information anyone might have. I was also told the best way to deal with drilling companies is to join a co-op of land owners. I don't know if there has been any talk of that, if so it might be worth thinking about.
