Go Marcellus Shale

All things pertaining to the Marcellus & Utica Shale

Part of a newly forming landowner group in Southern Ashtabula/Northern Trumbull Counties...4,000 plus contiguous acres so far with a few more contiguous landowners to contact.  We want to stay small (the properties are all located in an area bounded by Rt.46 to the west, Rt. 193 to the east, Rt. 322 to the north and York St. to the south - ALL recently having been seismic graphed...) and grouped only because so many of us were tired of trying to deal alone with high pressure landmen, little or skewed information being disseminated by various leasing reps, etc.  Any advice from those of you who have already been through the early stages of forming landowner groups will be greatly appreciated!  Message me on this site or e-mail me at edgan75@hotmail.com please!  Thanks!

Without a leasing agreement in place, NO SEISMIC testing should have been allowed on anyone AC.  I realize that some seismic results are obtained from the "bumper-thumper" trucks going down the road, satellites and planes overhead .... those the public has no control over.  However re-read the first sentence.  If you don't understand why, I'll be glad to explain.   jlhanch@nc.rr.com

Ed, I'm happy to explain what operating a group is all about.  I've been covering 4 counties for 5 years. It's a non-paying, long hours job, but rewarding because the outcome will bring prosperity and wise growth to the region.

My first piece of advice is to contact Penn State's Marcellus Center for Research, Development and Outreach.  It's staffed by wonderful people eager to help.  The "outreach" part is one they fully believe in as they provide webinars, published info and sometimes speakers for your meetings.  They have done this for states throughout shale play.

Your people need to be informed first and foremost before they even think about signing a lease.  You think the landmen are pressuring folks now, just wait.  It will get worse until you have a plan, and the closer you get to your goal there will be a time when they will make one last push.  You need committed members in your group ... and perhaps a dozen Dobermans would help!

I'll contact you personally @ hotmail.

Thanks Janice!  Yeah...all the seismic in the area so far has been the caterpillar thumper caravans...all on roadways.  Thanks for the rest of the advice, also!

What counties does this cover? Thanks!

Hi Shari!  Our properties are all located in very southern Ashtabula county and very northern Trumbull county (most centered in Wayne Twp.)...all contiguous acreage now covering roughly 5,000 acres.  We're not seeking additional landowners because we want to keep our group relatively small and entirely contiguous...we're just seeking additional advice from others who have successfully formed their own local landowner groups.

Are you looking for a group to sign up with?  Not sure where you are at, but I'm sure there are groups in your area...check through this website and you should find several of them to contact.  Good luck!

Hi Edward, Based on the other inquiries, how are things going with your group, can you share?

Hi Edward, Get in touch with Susie Rankis on this site or go to http://lookbeforeyoulease.wordpress.com for the "Landowner Toolkit" CD the Rural Action put together, its an excellent resource for all of us and should prove usefull to you.

I ordered five, they came free of charge and i am going to try to meet with the townships and village's around me and including my township of N.Bloomfield, to attempt to set up informational meetings at the town halls and the like and to make printed material available for residents to take home to help educate some of the non-bloggers in my area, of the choices available so they know W***G**** is not the only game in town, and that there are things to consider in the lease language of serious importance. Good luck and if you do decide to extend the range of your interest south to Bloomfield and Greene Twp. let me know.

I haven't been on-site much in the past few weeks...but wanted to update this - our group now has a little over 9000 contiguous acres.  Interest in the past couple of weeks has definitely been picking up...hopefully once ALOV comes to an agreement over their Northern Trumbull group, we'll have a better idea of what the numbers for the area will look like.  Getting the Logan and Richmond wells drilled won't hurt either!
