It’s no secret the Marcellus Shale is providing an economic boost for economies across the Northern Tier, and one great indicator of this is the performance of banks in the area.
The banking industry in Pennsylvania has had to ride out the same depressed economy as every other financial institution across the country. Back in 2008, when the federal government took over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac after the housing bubble burst, institutions in…Continue

The celebrity tour of Dimock has been in and out of the news for the past few weeks. But, with all these natural gas impacts the celebs reported seeing, what about the many things that never even got a mention?
It’s been a couple of weeks now since some well known celebrities and their…Continue

Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon, together with a host of other characters, jumped into two Mercedes vehicles to head to Dimock and campaign against natural gas in New York, the same natural gas that heats the home of the Beatles beneficiaries.
Yesterday, Tom and I had an opportunity to travel to Dimock, Pennsylvania for a…Continue

Nicole sorts through the “everyone’s an expert” mentality on natural gas development to get to the heart of who the real experts are on this topic (NOTE: It’s not the actors or politically correct academics).
There is a lot of information circulating in the media and on the internet about natural gas development. Much of this stems from meetings held around the area where so-called experts step up to the plate in an attempt to educate the public. But, how do…Continue

If you search “fracking” on the internet, you’ll find one anecdotal story after another littering websites supposedly offering a “real” look at natural gas development. All of them, of course, are negative in tone. As someone who was on the fence on this topic only a couple of years ago, I can attest to how difficult this can make it for someone searching for honest-to-goodness facts on the development process. It can be downright exhausting. The advice hammered into us over many years of…Continue

Think about this statement for a moment: “Pipelines connect natural gas supplies to end users.” Why would I focus on something seemingly so obvious?
Because this simple reality seems to have been lost on many as the focus in the Marcellus Shale region moves toward building much needed infrastructure. Low natural gas prices, coupled with a…Continue

The newly developed “Artists Against Fracking” campaign has left me utterly perplexed. Here you have individuals who have the potential to do a lot of good but rather are jumping on a bandwagon filled with misinformation. They believe by maligning a proven technology they are clearing the way for expanded use of renewable energy sources. Ignoring, or simply being unaware, that the technology they are seeking to ban is helping the U.S. lead the world in carbon emissions reductions and is…Continue

I am so proud to say that I am from Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The city is the home of the Little League World Series, an event where for the next couple of weeks our community comes alive and opens our arms to people from all over the world. The fever has already started this past week as division championships took place to decide which teams would get to play on famous Lamade Field in South Williamsport. It’s certainly an exciting time in our region.
Williamsport is also now…

Yesterday’s Vote4Energy rally in New York was amazing! Shortly after we set up our booth, it started to downpour with rain we knew was desperately needed, but made us wonder if anyone was going to come to the event. We learned quickly you should never doubt the landowners of New York because they certainly didn’t let the rain stop them. Even as the rain poured down, we had people huddling under our tent to ask questions and discuss…Continue

My favorite part of the Fourth of July festivities is definitely the fireworks extravaganzas. Growing up, my family would go down to Wegman’s parking lot for the annual “Set the Night to Music” display in Williamsport, and to this day when I hear the song “Proud to Be An American,” I get excited thinking of the grand finale.
What I never thought about while I was “oohing” and “awing” was how they make such amazing, vibrant colors-at least not until the other day when someone sent me…Continue
