Is there drilling allowed on the forest in Monroe County. I understand that the Feds have a ban on any new activity.

HG Energy's last permit for the 818 unit includes about 145 acres of WNF ground with them listed as both the mineral and royalty owner.

Thank you for your response. It is my understanding that there is no drilling for Utica or Marcellus allowed by the BLM ON THE Wayne. That was stated in the Athens paper on August 23rd. We hold the mineral rights on over 75 acres that the forest service holds the acreage. My discussion with them was that there is a hold on horizontal activity.

I don't believe you will see any drilling on the WNF but it sure looks like it will be drilled under.

Glad to hear some WNF acreage is being included in an HG Energy well.

I, too, had a discussion with WNF and was told there are several requests filed in Milwaukee for drilling in the Marietta unit of the Wayne, but they didn't know when any action would be taken on those requests.

Also I was told that some acreage they own the land and the minerals; some they own the land and not the minerals, and some they own the land and the minerals will revert to the Wayne in a certain amount of time.

My understanding is no well pads and no pipelines on the Wayne which means the property owners next to those tracts will bear the burden of development.   However, one local guy swears a small section of pipeline is going on the Wayne in Lee or Jackson TWP.   I am still not believing it.

Looking at where the wells are being drilled in Monroe they are not being drilled in the townships where WNF holds lots of acreage.     IMHO it will be several years for those of us who border WNF and some comments to our Congressman might be in order.

The Wayne was created out of the CCC work programs during the great depression. Oil and Gas drilling had been going on in what is now the Wayne (in all counties) for 50 years prior to its creation and as such the forest only owns surface in most of its area (and its a patchwork where they do own surface). So they can't do anything about where they don't own minerals except cause a headache for operators. The roads they own (not many) they can control who gets to use and how. My understanding is they don't have a very good idea of what they do actually own.....

My limited understanding is that if a company is interested in  drilling a wnf tract they have to submit a letter of interest or something like that to the blm.

I hope it is  not several years before it can be drilled as I have in interest in land that borders the wnf

That is my understanding also;   The BLM office for the Marietta unit is in Milwaukee so there are a couple of requests there waiting for approval.   When I was asking questions the WNF employee had no idea when that might be approved.

I too hope it is not several years away as I own property that borders WNF.  lol I actually said when I was asking questions am I going to miss out on an opportunity here and the reply was no but they still wouldn't give a time frame.

And again I say for Monroe county look at where the wells are being drilled it is in townships without Wayne National Forest.   According to the first reply in this discussion there is a unit with Wayne property in it which is good news.   Still think a little pressure to elected officials can't hurt anything.
