What do you know regarding the positioning of current politicians that support the landowners and their rights/protections in this industry, particularly those running for office or reelection. Pennsylvania is my main interest, but Ohio feel free to chime in for the benefit of your fellow Ohioans. Please don't make this a republican/democrat debate; this issue is where they stand regardless.

The state Democratic parties in the Marcellus/Utica are anti-carbon, pro-environmentalist politicians. A vote for them is akin to shooting oneself in the foot.

In PA, I additionally see a geographical divide .... the people west of the mountains (in the Rome Trough) and those east of the Mountains. Put another way .... those with Shale and those without Shale.

Although all in PA (and the region at large) will benefit; the people east of the mountains (the physical majority of voters and majority of legislators) will look enviously at any windfall those to the west receive.

To add to the simple geographical divide, there is an Urban/Suburban/Rural divide; again the Urban/Suburban dwellers will want to wrest a greater piece of the Marcellus/Utica pie.

Lacking in numbers and in political clout; and with interests different from the industry and their lobbyists, we start out at a distinct disadvantage ...... that means we have to speak louder and work harder to have our concerns addressed and our interests defended.

All IMHO,

I think in PA the urban/suburban folk will do whatever they can to break our existing Impact Fee.  Money from that fee goes (in their view, disproportionately) to drilling regions all across PA.  Course that's where the money should go, since drilling regions have to shoulder most of the burden of drilling.  But city folks could not care less about that!

In-the-shale landowners who live on their land are in the cross hairs this election.  The Wolf is at the door.  Sure hope we don't get et!

I only hope and pray all your houses are made of Bricks !   Good Luck to All !

Woody Ireland, the Representative in West Virginia for Ritchie and Woods counties, is a friend of the mineral owner.

We should all look at the future in this gas/oil situation in the US. It is BIG and will get bigger. Considering the recent impact of global pricing that is dropping, we are now in a very good position for the future of America. This means the politicians of both sides will be doing the same thing as they do now. Nothing really changes with them. Just look at the industry today, steel, up/trucking, up/ pipe lines,up/ cement and sand, up/ real estate, up/earth moving equipment, up. Etc, Etc.

Correction on Woody Ireland. He represents Ritchie and Pleasants counties WV.

Wolf wants a 5% severance tax. Yes, Landowners will pay that not just those "greedy O&G companies".

Than Wolf wants to raise income taxes on "upper income" families. Will not define what Upper Income is or how much !

http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/42000.html

Median Pa household income $52,267 or $28,190/person  2008-2012. Is $60,000 or $33,000/person Upper income? Guess what, Royalties and bonus are income. So just how much more will you pay in Income Taxes? Not just on royalties but all of your income.

That could be a triple hit if O&G pass their hit on to landowners.
I know he wants to start increasing taxes with middle-middle. That's not upper middle. All of them out of touch. Do they know how the great reccession impacted middle class. Obviously not.

"That could be a triple hit if O&G pass their hit on to landowners."

No "if" about it.  If there's a tax that producers pay you better believe that it's you and I who actually pay it.

I know. True.
