Injection of fracking wastewater in California has contaminated some aquifers.

"The letter, a copy of which was obtained by the Center for Biological Diversity, reveals that nearly 3 billion gallons of wastewater were illegally injected into central California aquifers and that half of the water samples collected at the 8 water supply wells tested near the injection sites have high levels of dangerous chemicals such as arsenic, a known carcinogen that can also weaken the human immune system, and thallium, a toxin used in rat poison." http://www.desmogblog.com/2014/10/07/central-california-aquifers-contaminated-billions-gallons-fracking-wastewater

I wonder: is similar contamination of groundwater happening in Ohio?

It's time for a moratorium on fracking until the industry and regulators find a way to avoid pollution like this.

"3 billion gallons of wastewater were illegally injected into central California aquifers"

As Phillip points out; the important word here is "illegally".

By your logic we should punish all of the law abiding companies in the oil and gas industry because there a a few law breakers.

Again, by your logic we should punish all people who drive because some drivers break traffic laws.

As usual you have twisted information to fit your activist agenda.

Sad.

Barry

I'm confident you're not surprised.  Punishment of innocents is de rigueur for liberal activists like the OP. Look, for example, at the "Safe Act" in New York and its impact on law abiding gun owners there.

Liberals seek to steal our traditional American freedoms, most often in order to further their despicable, hateful, selfish agendas.  God willing, they will have a bit less power following events November fourth.

Incidentally, the CBD is an extreme left wing environmental nut job organization funded by . . . wait for it . . . George Soros.  It's location, in Tucson, AZ, makes me wish we could undo the Gadsden Purchase!!

I would really like to respond to ol boys post but Im sure I would be banned from this website. So I'll leave him alone!!!

So, companies are pumping 3 billion gallons of waste into "high quality" reservoirs. And why should one believe this? Certainly not because the Center for Biological Diversity says so. Truly pathetic and baseless.

Progressivism Contaminates US Economic System!!!

Progressivism, otherwise known as Liberalism or Socialism, has been injected into the US political, economic, and social system for several decades resulting in economic decline, social disruption, and financial ruin. Symptoms include high crime, drug abuse, lethargy, apathy, victimhood, and a feeling of entitlement. Carriers exhibit smugness, elitism, and a sociopathic tendency to lie, distort, and manipulate  facts.   These combined affects have resulted in the deaths of millions of people in the US and the rise of extremism worldwide. Treatment consists of reading Atlas Shrugged, Adam Smith, the writings of d Tocqueville, and watching every speech ever given by Ron Reagan.

I work for an aerospace industry entity operating in California, as well as many other locations in and outside of US.  Unfortunately, I have the task of defending this entity from regulators in California.  This state and activists operating there will do everything in its power to manipulate and skew information to broaden its control and feed the environmental craze against anything that does not agree with their radical views.

Please look at the data itself and ignore the words of radical opportunistic propaganda machines.

Data below:

http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/campaigns/california_fracking/pd...

Arsenic is a metal found naturally in soil and in (dissolved phase) groundwater.  The results here show levels that are (depending on where you are) indicative of natural background conditions.  Thallium is also naturally occurring in soil and water.  Leaching from mining operations (common in this area) is most common reason it is detected in groundwater.  The data also clarifies the detections are "trace."  Nitrate is commonly found in groundwater due to leaks in septic systems and agricultural runoff (also common in this area).  The fact that these activists are rushing to blame the oil and gas industry for this actually very low and common level of contamination is frustrating but typical.  They really have it easy. All they need to do is throw out some data and claim it is bad and pin it on the something of their choice and the uneducated audience believes and reacts with emotion and without any logic.  The accused always bears the burden of proving the negative against an emotionally driven regulator while facing a misinformed and activist brainwashed public.  I will assure you the public there is beyond repair and no amount of rational explanation and education will fix this.  The only answer for this problem is the eventual cease of operations in that and similar states and the eventual economic collapse of those areas.  It will happen and the people will be begging these industries to return.  When they don't, they will leave and go to another state.  Unfortunately only a fraction of them will learn from this life lesson and most will continue to vote the way they have and spread this problem wherever they go.  Please continue to resist this manipulation by challenging every claim the environmental activists make.

How many headlines do you see that say "Illegal injection wells don't contaminate aquifers in...."?

Maybe we need to see that more.......

VERY well stated Eric.  Thank you for taking the time to post.   I agree 100%

Thank you Eric for presenting the facts .... and hopefully causing our resident troll to scamper back under his bridge.

Rather than "injection wells contaminate aquifers in California", a more accurate heading for the topic should be "Troll contaminates gomarcellusshale.com with false article".

Sadly, it is impossible to educate a troll; all you can do is expose them for what they are.

Now folks, we can all move along .... there is nothing to see here.

All IMO,

                 JS

can't ignore lying radical enviro's any more than you can jihadists.

I sure hope I never get the opportunity to meet the OP in person.  That's all I can say.
