We are new at this so just a question... Has anyone heard of Shell wanting to sign up leases in Chattam twp. before the original lease is up? We have been approached by a landman and they seem anxious to sign us up.  Just want to be educated.

It certainly applies to the Utica, but that law is so old and poorly understood that it's likely to be amended before things go very far. Many things in there (like forced pooling) are much more political than they were in 1961. And the technology is different as well. I really hope that the conservation law gets revised before it turns into an obstacle to development.

Is the conservation law interpreted and enforced by the operator or by the DEP..

The DEP would certainly be in charge, but given the current situation anything unusual is likely to go to court. So that's who'll make any big decisions until the law gets updated.

re - the Range maps - mapping and Utica/faults etc.. Thanks Jack. I have mentioned this before but Shell has permitted at least two sites recently to drill in the Trenton. The site I am most familiar with is exactly in the center of the county and they are currently working on it - as of this last week. I have never seen any maps regarding that formation and Tioga County.

Does Wolf's new bill stop Senaca from future drilling in the DCNR tract there drilling in Middlebury.
