Anyone have an opinion on selling a portion of my royalties to a group so that they can fight for fairer treatment? It seems everyone is complaining about unfair deductions and low royalties.

I would never in a million years sell my royalties.

Since I'm unlikely to live a million years I would like to enjoy the years I do have, but the real question is if I'm not going to get fair royalties what are my choices

If you know Jesus as your personal savior you will live a million years and more!

But I won't need royalties on earth when I have streets of gold

That's correct, I only replied to your part that you said it seemed unlikely you wouldn't live a million years, didn't say anything about royalties :)

Bert,

Selling your royalties for this reason doesn't seem wise.

Hiring a competent oil and gas attorney would seem wiser. Or perhaps there is a landowner group dedicated to this cause that doesn't require a "pound of flesh" or your "first born child".

It would seem that someone that has a financial interest in my royalties would likely do a better job for both of us.

Bert,

Have you signed a lease?

If so, the terms of the lease are what they are.

I have a lease but no drilling yet. I have been approached to sell all or a portion of future royalties and just wanted thoughts of some in a similar situation

I have seen many illogical reasons for selling royalties but this tops them all, no offense intended.

Any prospective buyer is going to formulate a very conservative estimate of what the lifetime royalties from your lease will be and then offer you a whopping 10% of that figure.

IF you are in a very advantageous position you MIGHT get 20%, but I promise you very few if any get more than that.

So, 10% up front and you don't worry about the royalties because you gave the rest of them away OR  just wait and see what your lease holder adheres to from your lease and then take appropriate action if necessary.

There is no doubt that there is a certain credibility to the charges of royalty theft made on these threads but I wouldn't bet that they are all of the same accuracy or degree.

Even if you were to sell royalties this is the absolute wrong time to do it.

So all these people complaining about unfair royalties are inaccurate?
