Just curious...

I am in Liberty township and a few months ago got an offer to buy my royalties for 1500 to 1800 per acre, but they would do a more in-depth look if I was serious which "mite change the numbers" slightly....even tho I am not drilled or receiving any royalties ..talked to a landsman rite b4 I contacted them and he advised caution as there will be "significant" activity in my area in the "near future"....how about it, anybody else get an offer or hear anything or see any activity here in Tioga Co. ?

Out of curiosity, any agent other than the operator have access to the actual drilling  log files?

Ann,

I will assume you are looking for mud analysis for any given well?

I think that info might be in the Well Completion report, available to all on PADEP.

I know little about the drilling process. But I am assuming - perhaps incorrectly - there is a running log file of the drill head's location. (Mud analysis is to periodically determine gas content?) What I was getting at is how common it is for drilling to deviate from the plan.

All the well pads are drilled that way today because you have so many wells drilled from one pad.We might start seeing as much as 40 wells drilled from one pad.You have to keep going further out and drill northwest or southest to find virgin rock.

Thanks for the sugestions of sources. It can be tedious tracking down information in PA since the DEP, DCNR, and PUC all get a piece of the (funding) pie.

Think it was at least  5 years ago when some permits were ammended dto "drill deeper"  There also has been discussion of whether/not it is worthwhile to re-work declining wells.  This is relatively new  technology and some things they aren't going to know unless/until they try.

It's very rare that recompleting an older well will be profitable. But using an existing Marcellus well pad for drilling Utica wells does save money. The problem is that Shell is planning to drill longer laterals going forward, so the spacing of the old pads is no longer optimal. That means that not every existing site will be useful.

"SWEPI LP Ordered to Pay $4.1M to Landowners in PA Lease Contract Dispute"
July 18, 2016

"Royal Dutch Shell plc affiliate SWEPI LP has been ordered to pay more than $4.1 million as part of a breach of contract suit filed by owners of two parcels in Lycoming County, PA. ..."

Yes, this is out-dated. But in case it wasn't posted here at the time ...
If SWEPI was going to claim a lease didn't exist (and they didn't owe the bonus), why did they turn around and surrender that non-existant lease?

I would expect SWEPI to appeal as a matter of policy, even if it would cost less to just pay the $$.  I didn't get a lease offer that included a reasonable bonus until an operator wanted to perform seismic testing.  I didn't "bite" because I expected that if the results were negative, there would be an exuse not to follow through on the lease.

"BC BIZ: Gas drilling begins in the Utica Shale"
Daily Review - Nov 27, 2017

"At the beginning of this year in Wells Township, Repsol Oil & Gas USA began producing natural gas from a Utica Shale well, which is currently the only active Utica shale well in Bradford County, according to the Department of Environmental Protection's website.

And Chesapeake Energy Corp. says it is planning to drill a test well in Bradford County later this year or early next year that will tap gas in the Utica Shale. ...

Repsol is evaluating whether to drill more Utica gas wells in Bradford County, according to company officials.

"We are currently reviewing the potential for Utica development across our leased acreage in Bradford and Tioga counties," said Amy Gilbert, a senior stakeholder relations advisor with Repsol. However, "we have no immediate plans to drill additional Utica wells. ..."

Repsol's Utica well in Wells Township has been a disappointment so far. (It's been in production since the beginning of 2017.) I don't think they are likely to do much more in that area. But other townships could be different.

North on 15 from where, Mineral owner?
