Ohio Releases 3rd Quarter 2013 production statistics!

The typical Utica shale well in eastern Ohio produced 137,168 thousand cubic feet of natural gas and 5,439 barrels of liquids from July through September, according to a new report released on Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

That is enough natural gas to generate about $550,000 and enough oil to generate an additional $490,000 from each of the the state’s first 245 Utica shale wells or nearly $1 billion a year  from all the wells.

"Those are very good numbers," said Jeff Daniels, a geophysicist at Ohio State University, co-director of the university’s Sub-Surface Energy Resources Center and an expert on Utica shale drilling. "They’re high but they don’t shock me."

How exactly should I be reading these?

IE: Let's use the Shugert well as an example

3059 oil (Is that total for the 85 days run?) Is it Barrels, 3059 barrels of oil in 85 days?

Also the gas

827916 gas

- how much gas is that? Is that also total for 85 days?

 Bill that works out to 35.9 barrels of oil a day.

Yes TM its close enough.I saw the Stutzman well in Belmont county Somerset Twp. is producing 14 million a day in gas.

Yes, it does look like one needs Excel and I only have a starter program of it, so I haven't seen any results yet!   Hiker, do you have Excel?

It works for me and I am using an IPad. Have not tried it yet on my computer though.The file will open up with open office and it is free to use. It opened up for me through open office on my computer.

Searcherone:  Nope, but finally was able to open it with Open Office and copy/paste so I could manipulate the numbers....

Interesting bunch of results.  A mixed bag.   Just looking at the Antero numbers, the gas production/day averages 37% of the reported IP's, but the oil is almost nil (5%).   So, where did the oil go?  Swept along in the gas stream due to lack of separation capacity at the well?  Is this possible?  Only two wells (Miley 2H and Wayne 2H) showed the oil production close to expected based on a similar % of IP, so maybe those were the only two that captured all the oil?   I'd like to hear the experts explain what's going on.
