I wish Keith would take away the ability here in the Beaver County area to post a new discussion in the general area. Twice I've posted to the wrong place.... maybe it is just me.

Anyhow, here is the post incase you don't check out the general forum.

I just noticed this on the DEP site, maybe I've been missing it all along or it is new. If you haven't been there it is worth looking at for the giggles of it. Utica is listed the most, but others surprised me a bit.

Going here:   http://www.depreportingservices.state.pa.us/ReportServer/Pages/Repo...

will let you select criteria for viewing the target formations of all wells reported, even those not drilled it appears. I don't know if the list is complete, but it appears that way.

The list of target formations so far in Beaver County reads like this:  Utica, Marcellus, Trenton Limestone, Rhinestreet, Onondaga, and last but not least Point Pleasant.

Very interesting!  I knew they had a few formations to explore/produce and this solidifies the thought.

Now if we only knew what they think is down there in those other formations we would be golden : )

PA DEP has posted first half 2014 production data, finally.

Amen!

Craig,

I've been to that section of the DEP site before.  Not sure how useful it is?

Phil,

Knowing that there are possibly 6 formations or even more under our feet that could be profitable for the drillers is huge. To my knowledge (and i'm not a geologist) there are no other areas in our country that have this possibility.

Just think about it: Build out infrastructure once and produce from 6 formations on ONE well pad. That is phenomenal and cheap......and could last for decades and decades.

Craig,

I was happy when I started searching for wells based on geologic formation on the PA DEP website; I concur that it's a valuable tool and helped me determine the locations where various Upper Devonian wells have been or plan to be drilled in our vicinity, including the Rhinestreet, Geneseo and Burkett Shales within the UD interval.

Contrary to belief, we are not unique in having stacked shale plays; although we are closest to major NE markets and stacked with the most prolific shales in terms of production including the Marcellus and Utica. I'll post a presentation that will show you what I'm talking about when I have the opportunity. There's a big "4" on top of our area for prospective shale layers; there's actually a "7" on one area in the SW USA. Depends on how you look at it, but there actually are several different landing points to keep drilling; for instance, it's conceivable to drill the upper Utica in addition to the lower Point Pleasant... Perhaps a zipper well into the upper Utica above and between 2 Point Pleasant laterals would increase production of the Point Pleasant similar to how CNX is drilling zipper wells above and between Marcellus laterals to the Burkett shale. We have the vast gas in place: all sorts of possibilities are plausible.

The key component is to have a great prolific shale to draw the drilling, then they can cut costs by extracting production from consecutive wells from different formations from the same pad.

This is a generational game and our area is in the top of the 1st inning. It will take a century to develop.

Good discussion topic!

Thanks, Todd

Todd, I have always tried to add to the info available here at GMS and I'm glad you have also done so for some time now. For awhile I thought GMS was losing it's appeal to me, but discussions here ebb and flow just like other boards so I'm here for the long run.

I never realized there were other areas with stacked plays. Looking forward to your link about the stacked plays.

Thanks for the input you give to this board.

Craig

Ok Craig,

Here you all go!  See pages 2 and 4 (slides 23 and 25) of the attached analyst presentation!

Thank you for all of your input on this board as well - we work together as a unit.  :-)

Todd

Hmmm, no attachment........too dang early in the morning I guess.   ; )

I  saw on recorder of deeds website 80 acres of oil and gas rights 100 percent sold for 226,000 . Already in the berovich unit .  Seemed kinda cheap to me ?

Seems kind of cheap to me also .A year and a half ago I was offered almost twice that amount for 60 acres. My land is in Hopewell and Independence twps.
Sold or leased? I hope you wrote that wrong. Someone lost a fortune for selling that early unless a present financial situation was unavoidable. Tough times everywhere.

sold not leased- I think that once in production that acreage could easily bring that money back in 5 years or so
