Eight new permits were issued last week for horizontal wells across the Utica shale, according to the latest update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Oklahoma City-based Ascent Resources received five permits to drill in the Utica. Two permits are for wells in Jefferson County, two others are targeted for Guernsey County and a single permit was issued for a well in Belmont County, according to ODNR.
The agency issued two permits to XTO Energy for wells in Belmont County, while Eclipse Resources LP secured a single permit for a well in Monroe Township.
No new permits issued in the northern tier of the Utica, which includes Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
Janice, join the Erie County, Pa. group. Erie County has both Utica and Upper Devonian potential but other plays have taken all the action because the Marcellus area also has Upper Devonian and Utica potential and they can access that with existing well areas. The good news is that hopefully newer technology will benefit Erie County and it is possible that there is more "wet" gas areas in Erie County, Pa. but we are not going to know until it is tested and drilled. One Utica well was recently dug in Erie County - Adameck1
