I own mineral rights in Tyler County and I was just contacted by EQT about a lease, I'm looking for an attorney that is knowledgeable about the value of the mineral rights I own.  I'm from out of state and don't know who is known for their expertise in this area.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kim,

The Tyler County bar association may be able to direct you to a reputable attorney with oil/gas experience.

Good luck!

Thanks, Ralph.  I have some names from the list, but was hoping for someone with a recommendation that used an attorney.  It's so easy to pick the wrong one because I'm out of the area and don't know about their reputations.

Understood.

I practice in western pa and i'm not familiar with the tyler county, w.v. area.

good luck!

Hi Kim,

I have used Kyle Nuttall. He is on this list and knows a lot about oil and gas leasing and the Northern West Virginia area. It is always best (I learned the hard way) to use an attorney.

Just be careful.  I went to law school at WVU and I can tell you that there are a bunch of instant experts now in WV attempting to practice oil and gas law.  Don't be afraid to question your prospects specifically on their actual experience dealing with oil and gas issues, not how many seminars they attended or how many websites they reviewed.  Remember that the documents you sign could affect your land use for generations.  Good luck.

2nd opinion........This also maybe the time to ask for and pay for a second
opinion........maybe even a 3rd... This could be a life changing event (good or bad). Take your
time!.... what is down there is not going where......unless you have a time frame
a more than a couple thousand years........IMHO

Very well said.  Sterling advice.

Excellent counsel, James.

I used the yellow pages to help me.  But NOT the current yellow pages.  Instead I sought out and consulted yellow pages lawyer ads from up to ten years back.  It was amazing to witness that lawyers today proclaiming their O&G acumen were advertising expertise back then in other legal arenas, with no mention whatsoever of O&G.

Tip of the day, very good...

Kim...I would highly recommend James Brink...I have met with him personally and he is extremely knowledgeable and candid. I wish I would have hired him myself last year...the right attorney makes all the difference. I wish you the best of luck...be careful, and know who you are talking to at all times.

Kim...also,I failed to mention his partner, Steven Townsend. He and James form a extremely well rounded  law team.
