Go to your local city building, in the records department, there should be paperwork on file on who is declared under the production well. Our city building had it listed under the well pads name. they showed maps of who's property was declared under the production unit. Also, when the landman starts coming around asking you to verify property ownership, you know your under a well.
Yes the Courthouse, go to your records department, where they record Birth, Death, Marriage, Title transfers, Etc. I'm in Ohio Co, WV and all our records are now on a computer. I just type in the name of the well pad and the info came up, with maps where the wells will go, and they lists the names of the people who have property under the well. I would have to think that once they declare a well, that they have to notify the county. This is all public info.

May or may not be in the County Courthouse, depending on County.
Pretty interesting place for the history of a locality, beyond the practical nature of searching for business purposes.
You have to look for yourself. If it's up to the gas co you will know nothing until after the fact. Here's how my situation went.
2008 - signed lease with Ches.
2011 - Ches. sells lease to Southwestern. No notification. I found it on Landex. That is a document company that some counties in Pa use. Any document filed in the courthouse that has my name on it I can find using Landex.
Nov 2012 - Apr. 2013 I watch them build the road, pad and drill the well. I find out myself that I do belong to a production unit, using Landex again.
My research finds the well came on line May 23, 2013
I start looking for division orders to come in the mail.
Dec 27, 2013 Royalty check shows up for 5.3 months worth.
Feb. 17, 2014 Division orders finally show up
It does seem messed up that we are left not knowing things.
Kevin, did they try to modify your lease with new terms in the division order?

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
