Ohio County Drilling Starts
WHEELING - With a Chesapeake Energy natural gas rig drilling into the ground just off Dement Road, the Marcellus Shale rush has taken another step forward in Ohio County.

Gas Drilling Booms in Valley

WHEELING - There already are a number of producing Marcellus wells in the local area, centered in Marshall and Wetzel counties.

2011 - and Beyond. Expect to see more natural gas drilling in the local area next year, as companies move on properties that are nearing the end of their initial lease life and work to firm up leases and pipeline rights of way throughout the region.

Chesapeake is currently active leasing acreage in Ohio County. They started with the larger tracts (park system, board of education, county commission), but have committed to leasing the entire county, even the urban areas (small lots). Seismic work has been completed and we are looking forward to seeing the first of the rigs to move into the county.
