    Carolyn-
I oppose gas drilling, so you are not alone! Halliburton does have a lot to do with it because they developed the hydrofracking technique- an intrinsically contaminating process. No way around it.

It was mentioned before, but it bears repeating - let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Not all drilling is bad, and it doesn't always yield bad results. Our water well is within 1000' of a gas well, has been tested by an independent agency twice, and is still pristine. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, however drilling is a legal, highly regulated process. The DEP is not issuing permits to allow "an intrinsically contaminating process". It has been a good experience for us, even though we live less than three miles from the Carter Road incidents.

Just needed to present the other side of the coin...

Did a flying photo shoot of NE PA the other day, and got photos of wells currently being drilled. Most of the shots were Susquehanna County, part of Bradford, and a little Lackawanna and Wyoming. If you want to see what I have up so far, go to this link:

Hi-Like airplanes, every well could not possibly be perfect!
Every advantage has some trade-off, in the case of
Natural Gas extraction from shale, the value so far
exceeds any slight risk down 5,000 to 8,000 feet
underground in (impervious rock-many X harder
than concrete, and then sealed of at the end) that
naysayers focus only on the possible risks and avoid
most of the facts. Lets tap our reservoirs of wealth
and build a strong economy. (Keep the "TAX-MAN"
to a small bite - OK Girdon Buck

    rfs:

Great shots of the well sites! Using your pictures, one could build a catalog of sites by Gas company and detect the different ways of drilling that each company has. Thanks again.
