Does anyone know where NY stands at this point? When is the GEIS report supposed to be finished/released?
  • Robin Fehrenbach Scala

NY GEIS release date is now September 25, 2009.
  • Greg Sovas

Everyone in NY should read DEC's EXCELLENT response to Walter Hang's allegation in the Binghamton Press that there were 270 oil spills attributed to oil and gas wells. This letter to Assemblyman Bill Parment illustrates how statistics can be manipulated. Bill Parment has always been a strong supporter of landowner rights and has supported the oil and gas industry.Parment Letter.pdf

Such WONDERFUL reading you have provided. It is so good to finally see sensibility and logic moving into the chatter.
Let us keep up the hope that NY will come out of this on the right side.

Regarding the bonus payments are people talking about per year or is the bonus for the entire lease period? I.e. 10 yr lease at $3000/acre. Does that mean $30,000 per acre total over 10 years?
  • Austin Eudaly

Mark, the $3000 bonus is a one time up front payment. If they have an extension in the lease, after the ten year period is up they may choose to exercise this option at a set price in the lease.
  • Susan Oliver

10 years? Not so -- it is determined by the specific contract/lease -- that's awfully long.

Cortland/Summerhill/Moravia/Groton.....A farmer on Lake Cumo is trying to organize a landowners group in this area. He will put an ad in the pennysaver to have a meeting sometime in March at the Summerhill Town Hall on Rt. 90.
  • Irene Hufnagle

We own some land in Stueben County. Can you tell me if there is any activity there with gas leasing.
  • Robin Fehrenbach Scala

NY landowners who are trying to find out what is happening in their area should find a coalition to join. The best leases and deals to date have been negotiated by landowner coalitions in PA and NY.
If you need to find one, go to the website for the Joint Landowners Coalition New York at http://jlcny.org

42% went to taxes? That seems to much, no?
  • Paul Butski

That was it 42% I guess it is like hitting the lottery they will tax the heck out of you but at least he got 58% of a bunch of money
