Happy 4th of July ! Please take today to be positive and rejoice in the freedoms that we enjoy as property owners in the USA. Respect the value of the natural resources that we are blessed to have below our feet. Continue to stay the course as we advocate for our landowners as we believe that landowners in our area should not be willing to lease their gas and oil rights for anything less than $5,500 per ac. and a 20% gross royalty. United, we will not be sold out by outsiders who have only their own best interest in mind . Enjoy Today !
**Note** Incorrect time was posted for this meeting at the earlier posting
The correct time is 6:30pm not 6:00pm.
The Landowners Association of Geauga Lake and Ashtabula Counties will be having a meeting Thursday July 12th at Ledgemont Middle School 16200 Burrows Rd Thompson. The meeting will start at 6:30 PM. If you are not already a member of a landowner group, join us for this informational meeting. Bob Rea will be the featured speaker and will bring us information regarding leasing.
i just moved to Hartsgrove township in Ashtabula, OH. I was trying to look into leasing mineral rights but dont know how to get in contact with anyone about which company is the best. I have looked into a few but am new to this process. Anyone know of a good place to start?
Was anyone aware of the seismograph lines run up Rt. 534 all the way to the Lake by Precision Geophysical from Middlefield? I talked to one of the technicians who only said that they were running over 175 miles of line with seismic sensors, but he wasn't sure what they would be testing. The lines were run over the weekend and on Monday and were followed by testing trucks I'm assuming were sending "shock" signals to record subsurface features.
It's possible. I just noticed them from Rt. 6 and 534 running north to the Lake. 175 miles is quite a distance, and would go past Wheeling if they did a straight run. I'm not sure if this type of testing would use a circular routing. They had the area red-flagged every couple hundred feet for a few weeks. I wonder if Precision Geophysical would have any comments. These are all my assumptions of course, but this could be a benchmark survey to check the underlying geologic structures.
We have received a letter from Nicholson Land Services with Tidelands Geophysical (TGC), asking for signatures granting permission to conduct a VibroSeis survey along our road (State Rd South/ Cty Hwy 25. They are staying within the right-of-way and on the road itself. Apparently there is no liability on our part, and no inconveniences to us. Is VibroSeis surveys the same as Seismic testing?
Auty05 Did you sign the letter and grant them permission? Does anyone know why they need your signature when their staying on road and right of way? Doesn't sound right to me.
I had a visit from a very nice young lady with a southern accent named Donna, she was working with a Nicholson Land Services, who are working with Tidelands Geophysical, and then Siesmic Exchange Inc. to conduct the seismic survey.
This is along St.Rt. 88, St.Rt.5, and St.Rt.87 and apparently other roads around the area. The reason they are asking you to sign permission is explained in the letter.
It appears on the up and up, and i dont see any money to be had trying to charge them for access or anything on a landowners part. They are to be working strictly along the road.
The State Shale Coordinator just asked that they do this in the effort to fully disclose to the public the nature of there work so no one gets the wrong idea why the men may be working in front of your home.
This means to me that good things are on there way, in the development of this resource, as a project of this size is rather expensive.
By the way this young lady happens to be driving a big white SUV, so hold your fire, if she comes to your door.
I'm assuming the purpose of the testing is to identify subsurface rock layers and geologic features. The charts would be used to locate potential formations that hold oil and gas reserves and to provide a benchmark ("before picture") of the subsurface. I would also assume that they will identify areas where layers might be prone to slippage or fracturing if exposed to underground pressures (natural and man-made) as well as with the predicted resistance or reaction to the insertion of liquids that would act as lubricants between layers.
Thanks James and Tom. All that may be true and I would be happy to have them do all the testing they want without a dime in my pocket. I still don't see why they need a signature for permission when the letter states they won't be on your property. I'm just saying its a dog eat dog world we live in and I'd be careful what I signed.
elliemae; we live in a very litigious society. Every one sues every one at the drop of a hat. These companies do what they can to protect themselves from unwarranted lawsuits.
I dont know what they told you but they are going to survey a straight 30 mile shot that runs nw by se and are going across country. They will be drilling small holes every 300 feet and placing charges down the hole and setting off a charge. Geophones will pickup up echos that are placed every 100 to 150 ft apart. They are coming across my property but first they will send a survey crew to mark the path. They have to stay 300 ft from wells and i think 500 ft from all homes and out buildings.Did anyone happen to ask who they are paid by to do the test?
Does anyone know if shantycreekfarms comments are related to the same project in ashtabula county on rt.6? Nicholson Land Services is conducting a Vibroseis study along rt.6 in Astabula County. Whatever that is?
Hello, i am in the orwell area and yes they are the same people who contacted me. They are supposed to start oct 15 with the line starting up by rt 6 going southeast all the way to the pa border. Oct first they will start getting surveryors out to plot the course.
More comments on my earlier post regarding the use of the tests and charts obtained from these tests. Don't assume that just because the testing is being done that first, there is a something below the surface worth leasing the land and drilling for. More importantly - if the companies and their attorneys that are paying for these surveys are doing their jobs, they should also be making themselves aware of areas where they would or should not operate because of potential large scale slippage or fracturing (micro-quakes) or groundwater contamination by introduced fluids and released methane which could potentially impact residential water supplies. A Jim mentioned, either of these and other environmental impacts could of course lead to serious lawsuits which these companies would certainly want to avoid.
Testing all along Rt 87. Heard oil companies pay $40,000 per sqare mile for these test results. I doubt they would bother if they didn't think there was anything under there. We all know its there - the question now is HOW MUCH, not "if". Also, in reply to Tom - serious lawsuits to the oil companies are like a fly on an elephant - they will drag them out for years until people give up or run out of money, or both. All their billions are coming from people like you and I, sqeezed at the pump for another $10 every time we fill up.
I ran into this evening the sesimic testing fellow on the corner of Rt. 6 and Rt.11. He informed that they were from Texas and they were working from the PA State Line down Rt. 6 towards 46. He informed me that he wished he owned a 100 acres in this area. Also that he is there because obviously its in the ground.
The seismic crew are on rt 85 this morning headed west to rt. 6 and westward from there. Also saw them Sunday on us. Rt. 322 at state Rte 11 headed east, probably to pa state line.
Dain...... NELA has been approached but at this time still smaller companies. They have a great portfolio and are very strong. Alot is riding on who Chesapeke sold to last Friday. Everyone see the release in the news about the pipeline???? My source was right. NELA is gonna make the RIGHT deal soon.
they told me last week that when they are done on 46 they will start in Orwell and go cross county 30 miles to Sharon Pa, mostly after the farmers crops are off. We had several conversations in my office over two days. They parked the thumper trucks here overnight.
The Seismic Trucks are 1/4 mile south of the Rt 11 Rt 46 interchange at this moment. The flags stop just on east side of Rt 11.
Dain, I signed 2 different parcels with NELA and have had all water these parcels tested and logged with reports. The people from NELA have always returned phone calls and have had knowledgeable answers to any questions.
FYI the Wishguard man was sitting at 46 and Jefferson Rd. Like he was someone important NOT!!!
Dain... I too signed parcels with NELA. I have 81 acres to be exact. My neighbor signed 15 acres with them as well. Brett and the guys are on top of it. They have been approached by smaller companies and from what I understand made offers, which were turned down. Patience is the key in this. Dain.... Did you sign your 25 acres with them?
Dain..... Atty. Jerome Lemiere said that the NELA lease is a good lease. He is in Ashtabula. Having water protection is very important to me. I do have a well and a 6 acre lake, as well as a 1 acre pond.
The Lake Ash. Geauga Landowners Assoc. will be having a meeting Thursday 10/4 at 6:00PM at Madison High School 3100 Burns Rd. Bob Rea will be a speaker at this meeting, bringing us up to date, as he has recently attended meetings in both Texas and West Virgina. Bob also indicated that he would be offering sign ups for Buckeye Mineral for anyone who is interested .
