Here's an excellent short article regarding the value of NGLs (natural gas liquids). If your property is in the wet zone of the play it is much more valuable than if it is in the dry gas zone. If you're in the wet zone make sure your lease pays you for all hdrocarbons produced (Ethane, Propane, etc.).
Here is a link to an article written by a prominent oil & gas attorney about lease clauses often found in leases offered in the Utica and Marcellus Shale plays. Interesting reading and reinforces the fact that you MUST have a good landowner-friendly lease that you FULLY understand.
Big news this AM. Consol has entered into a JV with Hess Oil for half of their Ohio Utica Shale Play. Hess is paying $6,000 per acre for the prime acreage in the wet zone (Harrison,Jefferson,Belmont,Guernsey totaling 79,849 acres). Go to the website, click on Investor Relations tab, then click on Presentations to analysts. There is an excellent map of the play and Consols' acreage.
It appears that Belmont is becomming the hot county. Maybe the southern part of the county is oil rich? Heard that yesterday, but don't know if it is only a rumor. Big boys are certainly moving in.
Randy, The article says Chevron is entering Ohio County, WV (Tridelphina, WV and West Libery College area in WV) and no mention of them in any Ohio county at this point.
I signed on with the KWGD Group 5. Their final proposal to the landowners should be finished later this week. When I see the final product I'll have it reviewed by my attorney and make a decision.
h bo, Most of the investor presentations that I have seen have been pretty conservative in their recovery estimates. As far as the thickness of the shale they are somewhat comparable depending on location, although the Eagle Ford may be deeper than the Utica is around here. Both shales hve the three zones of dry gas, wet gas, and oil. It's the wet gas and oil that will establish the market value.
The production numbers look very promising. Any idea on how long the production was measured (in terms of days) before this press release was generated?

I see the "REAL ESTATE FIRM FORMS NEW GROUP IN BELMONT COUNTY" thread has been removed, I'm sure due to the blatant solicitation that was presented there.
How do I join the Smith-Goshen group? I have 32 acres in Goshen Township and would like to join but I don't know how. I emailed Larry Cain - got his info from this forum, but he has not emailed me back and I have no other contact information for him
