After the well drilling has finished...

is there still a lot of noise that comes from the wellhead?

Do the wells remain lighted throughout the night?

Hi JR,

Five well heads in first picture, sixth was not fraced until later it was fraced about two weeks ago..

Not sure what the yellow tanks are maybe condensate tanks, other equipment is the apparattus that moves the gas from the wells to the gathering line which is on the other side of the enbankment behind the tanks and other equip.

Above are two pictures of the well heads and associated equipment on a pad after the rigs leave and wells are fraced and in production.

Not much noise, some light, maintenance people in and out to keep an eye on things,

That doesn't look too bad if you're some distance away from the wellhead. All I could imagine was a site lit up like a football field during the nighttime.

Summer - what I see here is a well pad with some wells ready to produce, some basic gas/liquid separation equipment, and some liquid storage tanks.

 

The solar panels suggest to me some flow monitoring devices  or some basic automated flow control capabilty, or a third possibilty to me is some cathodic protection to mitigate corrosion. I'd have to see more detailed photos or visit the well pad to tell for sure.

 

The wellhead is the piece that has a flange parallel to the ground elevation. The equipment that bolts onto this flange is the "Christmas Tree" that contains flow throttling or isolation valves. Noise in this equipment in my experience is related to flow from the well. Dry gas hisses or whines, whereas liquid slugs make more of a" Glug-Glug" sound.

 

Lighting on the location after the rig leaves is at the operator's discretion.

Someone had told me that even after well completion, there was quite a bit of noise that came from the wellhead and that it would remain well lit after the rig was removed. I couldn't imagine how people could sleep who have wells near their homes.

 We have 2 wells near us, in opposite directions ( 200 ft approx).  Both dry natural gas.  One has a 100ft wooded buffer.  There has not been any  noise after completion from that one.  The other does not have a wooded buffer and is elevated a good deal above us. We hear the continuous  hissing. and sometimes banging.   It is not  loud, just a new noise that is not part of nature. 

  I asked a CHK representative if it was always going to make this noise and was told that I won't hear it once the royalties start. :)
