Are We Winning or Losing the PR War for Marcellus Shale Development

I thought it might be interesting to see how public opinion is being affected by negative media and online buzz about Marcellus Shale.  My firm used Nielsen data to look at 45,000 media comments and over a million online conversations to determine sentiment.  In short, it looks like public sentiment toward Marcellus Shale fell through 2010 and continues to decline in January 2011.   Read more at http://blog.gregoryfca.com/2011/02/are-we-winning-or-losing-public.....  The blog post was written for the layperson.  Skip the background information by clicking on MORE and viewing the actual Nielsen data on how public opinion of Marcellus Shale is falling,

Chuck,

Where can I get the yard sign and bumperstickers?

I have an idea star your own movement and make your own. We have trademark a slogan here but you can use it. We say, this is shale country and on a quiet night you can hear a sheik cry. Just say what you feel get with some friends make some bumper stickers and some signs and show the world how you feel.

Keith,

You're overlooking a very important connection.   When the gas companies are paying big money to these television stations and newspapers for advertising, do you think that those same media outlets are going to be so quick to falsely sensationalize negative stories about gas drilling?  If the nat gas hand is feeding them, they will be much less likely to bite it.

Headlines like "WELL BLOWS UP, POSSIBLE ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINATION" are going to sell a LOT more papers than "COMPANY SAFELY AND WITH RESPECT FOR ENVIRONMENT COMPLETES MARCELLUS WELL"

Don't think that these papers and news channels aren't abundantly aware of this.

yea......... not so fast Mike,  Not that simple

Press often takes papers from the AP.  Ap is anti... and many WRITTERS are not pro-gas.  I'm in the paper business and at this point D.M Media is paid to send our stuff to them so they can print and get it out fast.

There is money in this ant big company BS and that atracts AG's to the press business.  Follow?

TV and radio are plug and play any more. The DJ on a local station may be form Iowa and he's make'n content for 20 people with the only diff in the station you here in pa, and the station you hear in iowa being the ads (uploaded from a server on comand) and the station I.D.  But all the rest is about sales. They don't care.  They take the money and play the ads that pay the bills

it's really complicated...Drill'N Man Media is on radio, TV, in print and on the web... that's how I can speak from athority.    Oh yea, the Boss was also in the equipment biz and worked in the oil field for a time :)

Chuck,

The radio stations out here are mostly local content.  As far as the AP, the local newspapers pick and choose what in-house content they want to run and what they want to run from the AP.  The AP can write 50 anti-gas articles a day, doesnt much matter if no one picks them up and runs them.

My company is on the tv, radio, in print, billboard, on the web as well.

One of the radio stations actually organized and held a large oil & gas expo after we became involved with them!

One of my landmen was previously a sales manager for a radio station and newspaper for 20 years before he left to come work for us.

So I can "speak from authority" as well.

yea, SOOOO NOt the norm.  Most radio stations are not owned by ppl who live in the area were the broadcast.  And maybe some have a quick morning show, but most or at least half of it is plug and play.   know why he's not in radio now?   NO MONEY.  LOL.

you are buy'n ad time, I'm saying Drilling Man News is the producer.  Drill'N Man isn't buy'n ad time, we sell news stories and we sell advertising.

Whether they live in the area where they broadcast or not, or whether or not they pick up syndicated content, they are still running mostly local advertising content.

so they don't have enough power or listeners to get ad reps who control oil ad dollars. so your radio station is really not that powerful of an influce.

every day, Drill'n Man news is on the air, not cuz the stations care at all, but that they get paid...paid by companies who want me on the air.  and I get paid... Paid cuz i put out content relevent to the industry and the local man.

The same goes for TV.  Drill'n man is buy'n tons of TV time cuz we have programing that ppl want and the stations can make money off it. NOT cuz they care about gas.  Same with football or whatever.  It's profitable.  But we know how it works on the inside.

See if your station you are talking about isn't highly ranked, and it's fighting for money, (as most art) then you won't get the ad bucks from the ppl who make those kinds of choices.

Chuck isn't Drillin Man new like a month old? Isn't it an up and coming entrepeneur

James Asbury? You said "we sell news stories and we sell advertising"..are you James?

no, work of him.   Drill'n Man has been around longer than that.  The website is only a few month. But if you are not in the oil industry or our target markeet, you may not have seen it.   We do not target the whole plannet like Mountain Home.

yes, we sell ads.  We attract readers by writting stories they find useful.  things like hand gun laws in pa, vs home, the housing problem, top ten companies to work for in the oil field and dealing with the cold (an issue if you are from the tropics)

You will also note that we DO NOT always side with the energy business.

We sell ads to shoe stores and equipment companies.  WE still have not sold an advert to any big company. No one can say we do their work.

Where can I find a copy of Drillin Man that is older than Jan 2011..What do you mean by the "work of him?"..I've known James since he was a little boy.
