Consol Energy reported in their quartely production report to share holders(10/13/2010) that they hit a 200 foot seam of Utica Shale in Belmont Co. Ohio at a depth of 8450 feet.  The vertical  well produced 1.5million cubic feet of gas in a 24 hour period.  This is without hroizonal drilling or fracking.  Fracking can increase the production by 5 to 10 X.

David Hill Inc. an Ohio drilling company is also drilling a well in Belmont and has plans to go to a depth of 14,000 feet.  As of 11/4/10 he was at 8300 feet and should reach Consol's depth within a week or so.

If Hill's well proves the same as Consol's the producers interest in Eastern Ohio will go up dramatically.

This can be verified by entering Belmont County Utica Shale gas in your search engine and clicking Consol's production report and also clicking Neews9 Special Assignment: Deeper Drilling.

This is how the Range Resources find in Washington Co Pa. was discovered (via share holders report).  I have not seen Consol's find in any media releases but I would bet all the producers are aware of it.

The information didn't come form an article it came from Consol's Quartely Production Report to share holders dated 10/13/2010.
It is doughtful that Consol would risk a share holders class action for posting false inforation.
Check out Casey Junkins article in today's 10/09/10 Wheeling Intelligencer. Consol Strikes Utica Shale Gas
