Dominion is supposed to be in our area to blow out and purge the pipeline at the end of Sept. Anybody know what that is and should we be worried or concerned? Heard this from a neighbor. And shouldn't the gas co. notify us about it. Haven't heard anything from Ultra.

Dolores,
Over time any manner of foreign substances can collect in a gas pipeline; for example dirt, water.
The companies purge the line to remove these foreign substances. If not removed they may interrupt service to homes.
Purging usually involves inserting a "pig" (ball or cylinder) at one end of the line and opening the other end of the line to the atmosphere. This causes the pig to run through the line pushing the contaminants ahead of it.
I wouldn't be concerned about it. Each company has it's own set of protocols as to informing it's customers so it's difficult to say why you haven't been informed.
I'd call your gas company if you have any questions.
Could also run a smart pig that that will show any issue with the pipe. This is a normal operation and is very safe
Most companies use mufflers and / or flare the gas on large blow downs
What location in Pennsylvania will this occur? Is this the major Dominion pipeline running through central Pa?
we're in the marshlands in gaines.
