Do you think Ohio could ever be like the North Dakota Bakken area in relation to jobs,real estate. etc

I was reading about ND and I was shocked to see unemployment is less than1%. Walmart workers start off at $17 an hour. Also no vacancies for rentals. $750 a month to  park your camper with no utilities or septic.

Could that happen here??? Is it like that in Texas Barnett area also??Eagle Ford??

I meant in respects to the economic impact of the area the oil and gas has been found in.  I would love to get $700 a month to let someone park their camper on my land. ;)

It doesn't sound good to me. We have seen the increase in rental prices and all it seems to do is hurt the locals. I wouldnt rent to these 19 20 year old out of state workers. The extra money you make gets spent on the repairs when they trash the place. If normal worker rates could go up the maybe. But that aspect seemed to slip thru the cracks somewhere along the way.

I know what you mean.But some of these slum town a house still can be bought for the price of a DVD.  Or  just rent a spot for a camper, who cares if they trash their own house.

Frag the locals. Hey are just as bad  if not worse as the out of state workers. I trired playing landlord .The locals would pay 1 month then never pay again AND they trash your house all for rent that was just about free.

Here's one of the locals. I'd take the oil boys any day over this: lol hillarious she wants free utilities too. Unfriggn real. Screw the local trash!!!

I agree but what happens when the locals leave then the o&g guys move on. I'm on the fence about a lot of the economics. Fear of the unknown. I would like to think the river area could be like it was when steel was better. Change is a little scary. As they say. Be careful what you wish for, I am.

The situation in ND exists because of the very low population density there.  It's supply and demand, and the supply of people in ND is very, very limited.  That's nothing like Ohio.  It will not happen in Ohio.
