GAS AND WET GAS PROSPECTS FOR THE MARCELLUS/UTICA PLAYS

With all the halluballoo lately about the sudden drop in crude oil prices,the prospects for the vast majority of us in the gas and wet gas plays seems to have been overshadowed and I find this irritating.
We began this journey excited at the prospects of huge GAS DISCOVERIES in our midst. Sure,oil has been hit here and there and this created some excitement @ $100 bbl+ prices. Good news for a small fraction of landowners to be sure,but we are first and foremost a GAS PLAY!
Don't be tricked in to taking your eye off the REAL BALL which is GAS.

Cove Point FERC approval as well as these 4 Ethane cracker projects and a myriad of other GAS related projects march on.
Let's resolve to keep our eye on the GAS BALL and report here on any projects relating to same.

Jesse, plenty of the leases are expiring in the state of WV and it appears to me that landowners are getting better per acre lease bonus money which was very low five or six years ago.   Also land groups seem to be forming which ultimately gets the landowner a better lease and more bonus money.   The WV area I am observing is in the northern panhandle with lots of wet gas and now Utica production.

Wet-Dry Gas

The components that make up natural gas in Pennsylvania can vary based on the “thermal maturity” of the gas, which depends on how much temperature and pressure the geologic formation experienced over time.  Natural gas is known as being dry or wet, with dry gas being more thermally mature and consisting primarily of  methane, whereas wet gas is less thermally mature and may contain “natural gas liquids” including ethane, butane, propane, and pentane.  These natural gas liquids need to be separated from the methane to ensure the natural gas sent to consumers has a consistent BTU content.  Wet gas is currently considered to be more valuable in the marketplace as the natural gas liquids have inherent value as a commodity.  In the Marcellus Shale, the natural gas varies from wet in the western portion of the state and to dry in the northeast as shown on the map.
