How much does it cost to plug a shallow gas well from the early 1900's?

I know an operator is responsible for plugging,  but how much does this cost? Just an approximate number,  hopefully from someone in the gas field,  thanks for your time.

mine was 12,000 dollars ,but odnr paid for it to be plugged.

Twenty years ago I asked the O/G company about connecting the house to the gas.  They said the well was scheduled to be plugged.  I said, then please plug it, as we had plans to build out buildings and the well's location played into our building plans.

Next thing I knew there were dozers running around, tanks being removed, pumps being pulled, and before I knew it grass seed was being thrown.  I didn't even get to say thank you! let alone write a check.  Well, okay, the dozer got stuck and had to wait for another dozer to come along and give it a big push.  But there was no expense to me, I suppose because I didn't own the well.

I think, here in Ohio, ODNR has a well plugging program for abandoned wells.  Check out Billy Park Whyde's link.
