Does anyone on here believe this will happen in the future in Ohio? They could have many wells on just one pad. If this does happen what other shale and rock formations would produce oil and liquids commercially like the utica shale? This seems like an interesting topic to discuss.

Permalink Reply by TM on September 11, 2012 at 3:35pm I read a story that said a well pad could have 10 to 20 wells on the pad all producing from different shale formations in the future. That is what I meant by many wells on a pad.

Permalink Reply by Jim Litwinowicz on September 12, 2012 at 3:39am I am confident that over time there will be well pads with over 30 wells on them into five or more layers. But it will be decades before they drill all those wells on each pad. A pipeline can only take so much gas. Drilling all wells at once would overload any delivery system. So they will drill several now, wait five years or more, drill a couple more, and repeat that process over decades.
There are other reasons to do this. One is they want to HBP as many leases as possible so they drill a couple of wells and then move on. They will come back when other lands are all HBPd. Plus, they are constantly learning how to maximize their production. They will drill wells later that will be better producers than the current wells. And as prices dictate, deeper and/or less productive layers will become economical to drill. And constantly improving technologies will shift the cost/benefit curve.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
