This may have been discussed before, it seems like the permit numbers are coded. Just curious as to what they mean.

Here is a link to the West Virginia Office of Oil and Gas website where the codes for West Virginia permits are explained. It works similarly for the other states.

API stands for American Petroleum Institute. Probably something on their website shows how this works nationally.
Thanks, We have land in Carroll county, and in looking at the well permits, it just seemed they have some sort of code. Just curious.
