Preston County WV - Chesapeake Energy Gas Exploration/Drilling?

Does anyone have any information concerning the recent gas survey by Chesapeake Energy? We were told a deep well would be in place this year. Was that "Landman" hype?

In regards to your quetion about a dep well, Chesapeake is planning on drilling a 22,401 foot wildcat well in Roane County, WV, the location is proposed southeast of Walton on Vineyard Ridge to location is close to a productive well drilled to 10,000 feet in 1999, in the Walton District. The company is seeking to establish a drilling unit and to pool un-leased tracts of land in the proposed well location.
Thanks Vic,
We are located in Preston County, near Bruceton Mills. How did you become aware of this information? I cannot find anyone who is aware of what is happening in our area.
Thanks,
Tim
Tim, by recent gas survey, do you mean the 2008 seismic testing around Valley Point?

Thanks.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I am referring to the seismic testing completed in Preston County.
Thanks,
Tim
It's my understanding that Chesapeake has three areas of interest in Preston County. The area ranked second in importance to them is in the Valley Point area. Don't know where the other two areas are.

I gave permission for the 3-D seismic testing before signing a lease (with more than a little trepidation, as you can imagine), and since they were very determined to lease this one parcel, I believe the seismic test results were favorable.

Are you leased with Chesapeake?

I did lease that particular mineral parcel to them but but was told nothing about a well planned for 2009, even before prices started to plummet in late summer of 2008. With the current price of gas, I'm not holding my breath! But I did not get any landman hype from Chesapeake.

Hope this helps.

Where are you at in Preston County?
Hi Rick,
We have 25 acres off of Hudson Road, about 4 miles from Valley Point.

I am located in Preston County as well. I am in the Laurel Run, Bruceton Mills area. Is there anything going on in the area? I have 115 acres that is not leased right now!
Does anyone know if Chesapeake has any plans for drilling in Randolph County?
Has anyone heard if there is any drilling planned for Randolph County, W.Va. Everything seems so hush hush. Thanks, charles
Charles, Check out this website, it might be helpful.

www.wvdep.org

Go to : Office of OIl and Gas
Then : Database Information
Then: Search Oil and Gas Database

You can check for well permits by county, date, etc.
I have a 200 ac farm in a prime shale location and regularly check for local activity but haven't seen anything. In 2008 I received an offer from a landsman for $400 + 12.5 % but refused it and am not at all sorry about that decision. The landsman told me it would be at least 5 years before the pipelines in northern Randolph county could be extended south of Elkins and that was before the financial crisis and so don't expect any activity in my area for a while. Regarding the area of Randolph that borders Upshur county, this is likely a different story owing to the availability of pre-existing pipeline infrastructure and the fact that the shale is slightly thicker there - 100' vs 80' or so where my farm is located.
