It's great news that an industrial plant is soon to be open and producing seamless piping in Youngstown and Lorain, Ohio for the natural gas industry. It's good for jobs and good for overall economic health, both in the industry(s) served and also the businesses that support the working force, such as restaurants, hotels and the like.
However, should this industrial production of seamless pipe become as successful as indicated in the attached article, it may be subject to intense competition from foreign producers, namely China. As a distributor of steel products, I've witnessed first hand the total decimation of my industry by imports, especially tubular steel.
If allowed to proceed, not only would it kill the newly created jobs, but it would also present serious quality control issues for which there are currently little or no controls. This must not be allowed to happen. In my opinion, PA. Quality control laws should be enacted along with the new bill in the house to allow only domestically produced products for use in drilling.
